Congratulations to our Rotary Club of Tucson on a Successful Ride to End Polio!!!
First, a big thank you to our riders! El Tour Riders included: Matt Blair; Gary Hirsch; Kandy Hirsch; Chris Monson; Angela Moore; Lee Olitzky; Alan Rogers; and JW Walkup! Indoor Riders included: Jo DeChatelet; Charlotte Harris; Jen Hoffman; Sean Hoffman; Dot Kret; Ann Lancero; Bobby Larson; Ernie Montagne; Steve Pickering; Darrell Stewart; and Hugh Thompson!
Second, a big thank you to our fellow Rotarians and Rotary friends who donated to The Rotary Foundation/Polio Plus in support of our riders! El Tour Riders raised $3,550. Indoor Riders raised $13,973 and an anonymous donation of $10,000 gave us a total of $23,973 raised! With the Gates Foundation Match our club’s contribution to eliminating polio through Ride to End Polio 2024 is $71,929!!!!!
Global Update on Polio .
Four new cases of Wild Polio (WPV1) cases reported last week, again from Pakistan. This brings us to 88 cases year to date. (25 in Afghanistan and 63 in Pakistan). There were also eight wild positive Environmental Samples (ES), all from Pakistan.
