Michael Deehan is originally from Detroit, Michigan and graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in Communications. Michael has been in the hospitality business for the last thirteen years with Marriott International in both management and human resources positions and is currently the Director of Human Resources at JW Marriott Tucson Starr Pass Resort & Spa. Michael just recently moved to Tucson after living 21 years in Seattle where he was also a Director for Human Resources with Marriott. Before moving to Tucson, Michael was a 3-year member and the Treasurer of the Redmond Rotary Club in Redmond, WA. The Redmond Rotary Club stated Michael was a great club member, bringing the right attitude and offering his time and energy generously. Michael visited our club at one of our monthly social mixers at the Trident II and knew he had found a new Rotary home. Michael is former Rotary Youth Exchange Student. He spent his senior year of high school in Copenhagen, Denmark. In October, Michael returned to visit his Danish host-parents, who were celebrating 50 years of marriage.
Michael is a member of the Society of Human Resources Management and the Marriott International Tucson Business Council. Being in the hospitality business, it is no surprise that Michael enjoys travel and food. Michael has traveled to over 30 countries. He spent his 21st & 23rd birthdays aboard the Trans-Siberian Railway. At 20 years of age, he drove a 20 year old Volvo alone from Michigan to Alaska. Being new to Tucson but familiar with Rotary, Michael is looking forward to getting more involved with our club and meeting all of our members.
