This was our ninth virtual meeting and final virtual meeting of this Rotary year!  The “flame” of President BOB LOGAN’s Reign of Terror is burning out…

President BOB called the meeting to order reminding us of our last meeting’s excellent presentation by our speaker where we learned more about Covid-19 and we will continue with that theme with our speaker of this week’s meeting, Mara Aspinall.  President BOB went on to share that the $40,000 Annual Fund goal for The Rotary Foundation has been met and he is truly humbled by the generosity of our members.  He reminded us that we need to be proud of our club and that when we set out to meet a goal, we achieve it!  He also shared that 140 members completed the survey regarding upcoming meetings and there was a lot of diversity in the responses.  Some want to meet in person now, some want to wait until there is a vaccine.  He encouraged that when the opportunity for meetings comes, it’s each member’s personal choice whether to attend.  President BOB also reminded us of the upcoming Change of Administration event on Saturday, June 27th at Hacienda del Sol where all appropriate safety measures are being followed.

An inspirational Pledge of Allegiance video was shared about a young California boy who puts American flags on the graves of veterans which has become a program now being done at cemeteries of significant numbers.  The Patriotic Song video was “God Bless America” with beautiful scenes from around the United States.

Our Inspirational video was for Father’s Day where a high school coach’s proudest moment was when his daughter surprised him by kicking a field goal during the final moments of his last game.

AIMEE GRAVES introduced our guests and visitors.  Welcome to our guests!

A special presentation of the “Rotary World Match Play Championships”, with music from the Master’s Golf Tournament and beautiful pictures of scenes around a golf course was shared.  Anticipation was high of who would wear the traditional “blue” jacket at the end of the tournament.  Held at the Dell Urich Golf Course, competitors included: CHUCK SAWYER, ROGER HARWELL, DAVE EAGLETON, and JIM LUBINSKI.  Tournament Chair was WAYNE MEYER!  President BOB served as our “TV host” for the event. “Overcoming many obstacles”, the winner was JIM who put on the famous “blue” jacket and accepted his 2” trophy.

Matt Russell did the video introduction of our speaker, Mara Aspinall, CEO of Health Catalysts Diagnostics. Mara did a thorough presentation regarding our current pandemic: defining the virus vs the disease which impacts the lungs; this is more than the flu with 112,000 who have died to date in the U.S. which is a 5-times higher death rate that the worse flu epidemic; we need to wear masks and maintain social distancing for our protection; there are two types of testing which are “Do I have Covid-19?” and “Do I have antibodies to SARS-CoV2?”; and we need to continue to test, trace, track and treat this virus.  President BOB had Mara sign “Where’s the Potty on This Ark” for the Make Way for Books library.

Birthdays were celebrated by JONATHAN ROTHSCHILD, MONTE CLAUSEN, ERNIE MINCHELLA, JEFF RONSTADT, and GORDON GRAHAM.   Also note, JONATHAN celebrated his birthday by surprising President BOB with a delicious pie ~~~ in the face!!!

New member introductions and welcome to our Rotary Club went to LYNN DEVOU introduced by sponsor ANN MARSH, and JENN DELANEY introduced by sponsor and District 5500 Governor ELLIE PATTERSON.  Welcome you two into this Remarkable Rotary Club!

President BOB introduced a Rotary International video thanking Rotary for their polio efforts.  Because of Rotary, 16 million have been saved from the crippling effects of polio.

In his closing remarks for the meeting and his term as club president, BOB shared two of his favorite videos: the singing of Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful Life” as song by children from around the world; and Denzel Washington’s “Make a Difference” and “Thank you”.  BOB then shared some of the significant meetings and events of the year and how we have also endured Covid-19, Black Lives Matter and the Bighorn fires.  He quoted John F. Kennedy that we need to observe today not a victory but a celebration of freedom…symbolizing an end as well as a beginning, signifying renewal as well as change.  The world is a very different place now for man holds in his mortal hands the power to abolish all forms of human poverty and all forms of human life.  And yet the same revolutionary beliefs for which our forebearers fought are still an issue around the globe….the beliefs that the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state but of the hand of God.  BOB reminded us that we need each other and we want each other and we need to help each other.

And just like that the end of BOB LOGAN’S Reign of Terror came to an end.  Fantastic year BOB!
