WELCOME Rotarians announced PRESIDENT KURTIS DAWSON Wednesday’s meeting. PRESIDENT KURTIS rang the bell at 12p to officially get the meeting started then made the announcement on the buffet, we will have fellowship then at 12:15p.
We were led in the pledge and song by Member JAKE BLUMENTHAL. Today’s song was “America the Beautiful”.
A Moment of Get-Well Wishes was announced by PRESIDENT KURTIS for member DON RIEGGER, he is at the Mayo Clinic battling pneumonia. There are cards being passed around, be sure to sign one.
The inspirational moment was given by JOE DANISZEWSKI. JOE shared his thoughts on how we can leave a legacy. He gave a list of all the ways our club has had an impact on the local community and how each one of us is leaving a legacy by being a part of this club and its service projects.
Seargeant at Arms BRITTNEY BATTLE took the mic to introduce our guests. Welcome to all Rotarians and guests. KURTIS and BRITTNEY reminded all the members of The Event that will be held on April 30th at the Mountain Oyster Club. It’ll be a night of fun and fellowship on an elevated level, please be sure to sign up on the website.
PRESIDENT KURTIS then asked BOB LOGAN to step up to introduce today’s speaker, Desiree Reed-Francois, Vice President & Director of Athletics University of Arizona. Desiree spoke of the impact the NIL (Name, Image and Likeness) contracts have on the players and the colleges. She explained how they are preparing the players for the future, how they are not only coaching them in sports but also their careers. Even if they go into professional sports, that career is a short span of their adult lives. They are asked what they want to do with the rest of their 50 years. The college requires every student athlete to do five hours of community service activities per year. The university also runs an assistant coach’s academy and leadership academy, this is a benefit to everyone. They focus on education and mentoring, making an impact beyond athletics. Finally, there were a few great questions from the club before Deisree closed the presentation with singing the U of A Fight Song. We all stood and enthusiastically sang, clapped and celebrated being UA Wildcats! Our Make Way for Books addition today is called “I Can Play Amazing Sports” for Desiree Reed-Francois to sign then add to our Make Way for Books Library. There was one birthday this week. Happy birthday to: WALLY JOHNSON (4/23). A very happy birthday to you!
We have one New Member to introduce this week. DIANA CANNON introduced family member CURT CANNON to the club and presented his blue badge. Welcome CURT!
The Raffle and King of Clubs game presented by BRITTNEY BATTLE. King of Clubs card was not drawn. Better luck to all club members next meeting.

PRESIDENT KURTIS shared a slide of Red Badge Selfies. Remember to take selfies with our Red Badgers. Next was a slide of Wilbur’s Travels. Wilbur has been to some great events. Don’t forget to donate to Every Rotarian Every Year (EREY). Home Hospitality Week is coming up the week of 4/21, sign up on the website for any of these great events. Save the date for “Happy Hour at Hotel Congress” on April 23rd to celebrate the Time Capsule Burial. No sign ups just show up!
MATT BLAIR kazooed his way up to the podium to announce the Membership Derby winning team. The winning team was Team Mustang Rally led by BRETT STEIN. In total there were 98 guests and 16 new members that came during our membership drive. A huge thank you to the Team Leaders and to MATT BLAIR and BOB MORKEN for heading up such a fun and successful membership campaign.There were three Happy Jackson’s today. BOBBY LARSON announced the next Community Food Bank service project is on May 17th. Call, text or email BOBBY to get signed up for this great time for a great purpose. Next SHANNON ROBERTS announced on May 2nd the Catalina Council Scouting America will hold the annual Good Scout Luncheon where the Council will honor three productive citizens here at the Tucson Convention Center. Lastly, RICKY HUNLEY announced the football players will have their showcase this Saturday at the UA stadium at 4 pm. Come see the players and wear your colors. Be sure to bring the kids.
