Rotary President KURTIS DAWSON called the meeting to order at 12 noon indoor from the Tucson Convention Center. The opening of the meeting featured the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag lead by SHANNON ROBERTS and the rendition of “My Country Tis of Thee”. A heartwarming Inspiration was given by MITCH PISIK.
The lunch featured delicious turkey meal with all the trimmings along with some nice slices of ham. As always TCC banquet staff were attentive to the hungry Rotarians.
President KURTIS kicked off the formal part of the meeting by introducing BRITTANY BATTLE, decked out in a military costume in honor of our speaker for the day, who thanked a wonderful group of guests heavy from other Rotary Clubs who were in town for the EL TOUR DE TUCSON, where fellow Rotarians ride the event to support the efforts to defeat Polio.
Today’s program included the commander of the 357th of David-Monthan AFB, COLONEL SCOTT MILLS. Introduction MARK IRVIN honoring Col MILLS with his Rotary honorary member certificate, followed by BOB LOGAN who gave a heartfelt introduction to Col MILLS. But wait, before the program kicked off, JEN HOFFMAN introduced the slate of Rotary Board member candidates and asked everyone to vote using the ballot on the tables.A round of good questions took place with Col MILLS, now an official Rotary Member, and concluded with the signing of the Make Way for Books, personally selected book, “Amazing Airplane”, before the meeting was turned back to President DAWSON to announce today’s Rotarian Birthdays.
Today’s birthdays featured JUDY KEAGY (10/30), DAN GUARE (11/23), and BRUCE TUNZE (11/24). Happy Birthday to all of you!
THOMAS ROBERTSON was called upon to introduce our newest member, ZACH TAVEL, a Long Realty agent and LARRY ADAMSON introduced DORVITA PARKER-HARRIS as the second new member of the Rotary Club of Tucson. Welcome and congratulations to you both.
Rounding out the presentations, JOE DANISZEWSKI presented Paul Harris Designation to Rabbi STEPHANIE AARON’S three Granddaughters.Dressed in her camouflage, our Sergeant of Arms -2, BRITTANY BATTLE, jumped into action, with the famous Rotary raffle. No big winner today.
BOB LOGAN introduced the new Rotarian Board members who are BRITTANY BATTLE, ALAN SCHROPE, and JONATHAN WALKUP. Congratulations and thank you!
Following this excitement President KURTIS shared the Rotary Announcements with everyone and directed all to see the sheet on the table. Of course, we were reminded by seeing a platter full of cookies and the author of this recap couldn’t resist. MARCIA KRUMWIEDE discussed the Member Support Committee, DAN KALM reminded all to sign up to ring the bells, JEANNE ZETAH presented the latest number of Car Show tickets sold (20,050) and still counting, and MARK IRVIN along with JON HARNED had Happy Jacksons.
Our next lunch meeting is December 4 with no lunch meeting the week of 11/25 due to the Thanksgiving holiday on 11/28. District Governor Sue Archibald will present at our 12/4 meeting at the TCC.
Meeting was adjourned at 1:20 pm with a toast by MITCH PISIK wishing a safe journey to those Rotarians on Saturday, who were riding EL TOUR to fight Polio.
