University Distinguished Professor
 
Suresh Garimella serves as President of the University of Arizona and Distinguished Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. He previously served as president of the University of Vermont (UVM) from 2019 to 2024 and, at Purdue University, as the Goodson Distinguished Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Executive Vice President for Research and Partnerships.
 
Throughout his career, Garimella has emphasized the importance of access, affordability, and excellence in the student learning experience, and engagement with community. As a researcher, Garimella has made seminal contributions to the field of electronics thermal management and energy efficiency at micro and nano scales, and in sustainable energy systems technology and policy. He chairs the research board of Sandia National Laboratories and previously served as a member of the National Science Board, which oversees the National Science Foundation, and as a Jefferson Science Fellow at the U.S. Department of State.
 
Garimella is an elected Member of the National Academy of Engineering and a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors, the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

Hiking Fellowship - Saturday, December 6th 
Greetings fellow hiking enthusiasts,
 
Saturday, December 6th hike - Tumamoc Hill Trail - 7:30AM start time from the trailhead
 
It is time for the annual tradition of our always favorite, Holiday Stroll!  We will meet at the trailhead on Silverbell Road, off of St. Mary's.  Please remember to use on street parking as the potential to have your vehicle towed on weekends is still in play!
 
The hike is categorized as moderate and on a paved trail, covering 3 miles and 720 vertical feet.  Please allow 2 hours for the hike and another hour for a tasty horchata/breakfast at Seis Kitchen!

Salvation Army Bell Ringing ~ December 13
Dear Fellow Rotarians,
 
We are quickly approaching the Salvation Army Rotary Bell ringing event!  We have the following spots available:
 
Walmart, Speedway and Kolb, door #2 as follows: 1@ 11-1pm, 1@1-3pm and 2@3-5pm.  
 
Safeway, Swan and Sunrise - 1@ 1-3pm; Hobby Lobby, Craycroft and Broadway, 2 doors - need 4 people from 3-5 pm.

Adopt-A-Road Cleanup! Saturday, January 17th

Great news, Rotarians! Our next Tucson Clean and Beautiful Adopt-A-Road event is coming up on Saturday, January 17th. We’ll meet at 8:15 AM at the former Fiesta Lanes (now Pinz), located at 501 W. River Rd.

 

Be sure to wear a hat, closed-toe shoes, sunscreen, and gloves. We’ll provide bags, grabbers, and safety vests. Bring your Rotary spirit and a little morning energy — together we’ll help keep Tucson looking great!
