Don Bourn, Chief Executive Officer -- Don founded Bourn Properties, Inc., a predecessor to Bourn Companies, LLC in 1990. His companies have completed over 60 commercial projects totaling over 6,000,000 square feet. Don is involved in all aspects of Bourn Companies’ business, including acquisitions, joint ventures, asset management and internal operations. Prior to Bourn Companies, LLC, Don was with Trammell Crow Company and Peat, Marwick and Mitchell and graduated from the University of Nebraska with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. Don is a member of several industry and community organizations and boards and lives in Tucson, AZ with his wife, Kim and three children.
It was another “field trip” week for those attending as we once again met in The Turquoise/Crystal Ballroom.
Following President DOT’s call to order, we were led in the pledge by new member, DRE WILLIAMS. DRE then led us in a rousing rendition of “America the Beautiful”, joined by KHRIS DODGE on the electronic ivories.
President DOT then began the meeting sharing the specifics for the Celebration of Life for DON ROLLING’S wife NAN, who recently and unexpectedly passed away. It will be on Saturday, September 6th beginning at 11:00AM at the First United Methodist Church.
GORDY SIEWERT shared this week’s Inspiration followed by JON HARNED, substituting for the recovering Sergeant at Arms, DAN KALM with the introduction of guests and acknowledgement of our virtual viewers, MARGARET HIGGINS, MONTE CLAUSEN and DAN. Last but certainly not least, President DOT then introduced this week’s Cookie Monster Sponsor, President Elect BOBBY LARSON and the Villas. Thank you BOBBY!
This week’s program, “Welcome to the African American Museum of Southern Arizona” was introduced by RICKY HUNLEY. Friends and neighbors of us all, co-founders Beverly & Bob Elliott shared the story of their road to creation of the AAMSAZ. Beginning with a question posed by their grandson Jody, during the pandemic and searching for a resource to complete a school assignment. What followed was the discovery that there was not a museum of African American history in Arizona. The wheels were immediately set in motion for its creation. From the stories of the Buffalo Soldiers to the amazing groundbreaking individuals and contributions of our fellow Tucsonans, this amazing museum is thriving and continues to grow! We all need to stop in and get our “Jody Bag.” They signed the book “You Come From Greatness” which will go into the Make Way For Books library as we continue to promote literacy.
Following our motivating program, President DOT then moved on to Club Business. Beginning with the birthday celebration of SALLY MONTAGNE. Happy Birthday SALLY!
We then moved into the recognition of new club members, DRE WILLIAMS and JOANNA ZICH. Welcome to the club you two and congratulations!
Acting S at A, JON then awarded this week’s raffle prize, but no luck in drawing the King of Clubs, and the pot has grown to over $1,800.00.
Announcements and Happy Jackson’s concluded today’s festivities, prior to President DOT’s call of GORDY back to the podium, to send us back to the world with an amazing toast. The meeting was adjourned.
Lunch Meeting at TCC - No Events Around Town (EATS)
Instead of our usual second Wednesday Events Around Town (EATS.), we’ll meet for a Rotary luncheon on Wednesday, August 13th from 12:00–1:20 PM at the Tucson Convention Center – Turquoise-Crystal Ballrooms (enter Parking Lot B from Cushing Street).

For this month's adventure, to "beat the heat", I was joined by Rotarians Dre Williams, Chuck Sawyer and Micheal Guymon. We got an early morning start hiking the Marshall Gulch & Aspen Loop trails for this first time this season. It was a very nice morning and we enjoyed a refreshing breeze throughout our trek. The conversation and tasty treats at Beyond Bread, following, was also refreshing!
Make sure to save the date of Saturday, September 13, 2025 for the final installment in this year'sSummer Hiking Series. Next month's stroll will also include Marshall Gulch but with a starting point from the Sunset Trailhead will offer something that many of us have not experienced, myself included.

The tour will take place on Wednesday, August 27th at 12 noon. Plan on approximately an hour and a half visiting four labs on the tour. We have availability for 30 max to attend the tour so let us know as soon as possible.

The Rotary Club of Tucson Cycling Fellowship will start up once again. The dates are November 8th and November 15th. The Ride starts 8 AM at the St Philips Plaza Campbell and River on the South side near the REN coffee shop. We will ride the loop going West. The ride is for all riders of any ability and the pace and distance is entirely up to the rider. This ride is meant to be a fun training ride in preparation for the El Tour de Tucson. Riders should wear Rotary jerseys if possible.
You all should have received the email from the Rotary Office with the Parking Protocols at the TCC. In order for us to continue to receive the complimentary parking, you will need to supply your Name and License Plate Number to kate.calhoun@tucsonaz.gov. When sending your information, please reference that you are a member of the Rotary Club of Tucson. After she has recorded your number into the system, you will not be charged for parking at the TCC going forward. If you have a guest attending a lunch meeting, please inform them they will need to validate their license plate number by stopping by the Guest Services Office inside the glass meeting room doors. Also, if you are driving a different car then the one you supplied information for, you too will need to stop by the Guest Services Office. Please remember to bring your License Plate Number with you when you leave your car.

Starting July 16, we'll be accepting ticket money for Car Show tickets at the TCCS Ticket table as well as giving out packets, additional tickets, posters, and promotional cards.
We'll also have Classics Club tickets available for those of you who would like to buy or sell them.
Please pick up your Car Show Ticket Packet by Aug. 6 which has lots of great info to help you sell your tickets.
