It takes the whole RCOT membership and many other contributors to plan and execute a successful car show. Although terrific groundwork work is in place from the prior 10 shows, there are always new issues and we sure have had these this year, and the chore of renewing and finding new sponsors, selling tickets, marketing and staffing the event to name a few. Getting the site prepared, layout for the classic cars and parking areas, erection of all the tents, signage, recruitment of food court, merchandise and promotional vendors, consume many hours of planning and work on site. And then the big DAY, and the end, except clean up on the following Sunday, of a successful RCOT lead and executed community event benefiting Make Way for Books, Caregiver Training Institute, GAP Ministries, JTED and YWCA and 10 to 15 other nonprofits who receive the remaining net proceeds of the car show; the reason YOU, the Members of the RCOT spent so much of YOUR time and effort. But Wait—this is only possible if you have sold tickets and volunteered and sought others to volunteer, then we can celebrate a success.
PRESIDENT CLIFF BOWMAN brought our meeting to order and he circulated get well cards for MARIANNE FREITAS who fell and broke a couple bones!We wish you a great recovery, MARIANNE! MIKE ORCUTT gave the Inspiration for the day and the Pledge and Song were led by LIZ MCMAHON and we sung “God Bless America”.GARY HIRSCH played the piano.
We celebrated JIM MURPHY’S and RICH FLYNN’S birthdays!
MARK SILVERMAN introduced visiting Rotarians and guests.Although we changed our speaker at the last minute, we had a full room and pumpkin pie for dessert.
KANDIE VACTOR gave a TCCS recognition to the company of Bolchalk Frey for all the graphic arts they have provided, the logos they have created for the Tucson Classics Car Show.A tile created by the Theresa Tile Works was presented to the top three creators, one being member ROBYN FREY!
SAA DALE BERG asked all to get out their tickets for the raffle.We also had an auction for the upcoming Carole King Musical.PRESIDENT CLIFF spoke of the upcoming RI Convention in Toronto in June.DALE BERG reminded everyone to check if they have lost some eyeglasses, to check the back registration table.GARY HIRSCH is looking for aides to volunteer to help the Ride to End Polio Dignitaries.

A standing ovation was given to ROGER HARWELL for the organizing of the Car Show Ticket Sales.Ten ways to sell tickets:1.Ask your associates, 2.Email your friends, 3.March into your bosses office and ask him or her to buy a ticket, 4.Post on Facebook, 5.Buy them yourselves, 6.Leave as a tip, 7.Leave in the offering plate, 8…..9…..10……
MARK CLARK reminded everyone to sign up volunteering at the car show.This includes family members….we are running short.
DAWNE BELL gave a Rotary Minute featuring the YWCA and the foundation we are donating to with proceeds from the car show.MARGARET HIGGINS and VIC JACOBS and DAN GUARE gave Happy Jacksons to promote different Non Profits having Fundraisers soon.
STEVE CHRISTY introduced our key speaker, Carmine DeBonis, Jr. who is the Deputy County Administrator for Public Works.His enlightening topic was “Pima County Transportation Funding Overview.He signed the Book titled “Blocks” for the Make Way For Books library.
PRESIDENT CLIFF closed the meeting and gave the following quote:“Laughter is to life what shock absorbers are to automobiles.It won’t take the potholes out of the road, but it sure makes the ride smoother.” Thank you CLIFF for a wonderful meeting.Have a good week everyone.
This year's District Conference will be held on October 13-15, 2017 at the Hilton DoubleTree Hotel Reid Park. Keynote speakers are Jennifer Jones, Susan B. Neuman, Michael Angelo Caruso and John Matthews - our own Rotary International Director. There will be more than 20 breakout sessions and special events for our Interactors and Rotaractors Saturday morning. Sunday morning will be special, with a salute to Rotarian veterans and active duty personnel.
The Rotary Club of Tucson will be hosting a Hospitality Suite with food and drinks Friday evening starting at 5:30pm along with other Rotary Clubs in our District. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to meet Rotarians from all across southern Arizona. If you have never experienced a Rotary hospitality night, come on out for the fun and fellowship! Come join us even if you cannot make other District Conference events!

Here is the information on the Road Rally starting at The Gregory School sponsored by the Sunrise Rotary Club on Sunday the 22nd of October. Due to the 11th Annual Tucson Classics Car Show on Saturday, October 21st, there will be no lunch meeting on Wednesday, October 25th. Our next scheduled lunch meeting will be November 1st.
Also, the office will be open limited hours during that week.

The Association of Fundraising Professionals Southern Arizona Chapter will host its 29th annual National Philanthropy Day Awards luncheon on Friday, November 17, 2017 at The Westin La Paloma. Registration is at 11:00 AM. Luncheon is from 11:30 a.m. - 1:15 p.m. Our Rotary Club will be honored at this luncheon and receive one of the five major awards. A film will also be shown that features our Rotary Club in the video. The ticket cost of the event is $80.00 and a portion of that is tax deductible. We hope many of you will attend and represent the Club and show how supportive Rotary is of community engagement and service. Registration can be made on our website under "Upcoming Events" but your club account will not be billed for the luncheon. Money for your tickets will be collected by Ellie Patterson and checks should be made payable to "So. AZ AFP" (So. AZ Association of Fundraising Professionals). We have four tables reserved and money needs to be turned in by October 27th. This is such an honor for our Club. Thank you to former member, Cheryl House, who nominated us for this award.
