President MARGARET HIGGINS called the meeting to order at 12 noon from the Sheraton Hotel Tucson. A delicious buffet started the meeting. The opening of the meeting featured the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag lead by JOHN DOERR followed by a repeating of the Rotary 4-way Test. A MOMENT OF SILENCE was held for MATT NANCE’S Mother Jan O’Brien, who recently passed away.
President MARGARET kicked off the formal part of the meeting by introducing JOE DANISZEWSKI who gave a truly inspirational moment about how much Rotary does for the community surrounded by caring Rotarians.
DAN KALM enthusiastically introduced many of today’s guests, which continues to be a healthy collection of prospective Rotary members.
President MARGARET first introduced ELIJAH "EL" NDOYE as a new member in the Club. She then proceeded to introduce EL as Today’s program about “The Forgotten Children” which is an inspirational program about a non-profit organization who cares for children that have been abandoned in Africa. EL answered many questions about how his organization’s caring for the children and not to be outdone. EL entertained us by playing a very unique string instrument featuring music from the African region. At the conclusion of his program, EL was asked to sign an appropriate book titled, “Making A Difference” which will go into the Make Way For Books library as we continue to promote literacy in our community.
Today’s Birthdays included DAVID LOVITT (12/31), STU GOLDMAN (01/15) and SANDRA JOHNSON (01/26). Thanks for supporting our Foundations and for celebrating your birthdays with the Club. Happy Birthday!

A Paul Harris Presentation was conducted by returning to the podium, JOE DANISZEWSKI honoring President MARGARET HIGGINS. Congratulations to madam President!

President MARGARET announced next week, February 7th is a replacement/social mixer at Tesoro Latin Kitchen. Registration is required on the Club website. The following week, February 14th is the 2nd Week so no lunch meeting. There will be the tour of the Pima CC Aviation Center. Our next lunch meeting is on February 21st at the TCC.
JOE D. gave the toast and the meeting was adjourned.
The hour-by-hour forecast is out for next week and looks like we will be mostly cloudy with possible chance of showers. Temperature at start time should be approaching 50 degrees. As this presents a bit more drive time and as there is a decent amount of parking, we will get a little later start and hopefully many more will be able to join.
Brown Mountain Loop/Out and Back? - Saturday, February 10 - Meet Time 8:45AM for 9AM start
This hike is categorized as moderate and can be completed either as a loop or an out and back on the ridge. We will meet at the Brown Mountain Picnic Area to assure adequate parking. The hike should take about 2 hours covering 4.2 miles with 688 feet of vertical gain.
Well, we had another successful Donation Drive. Monica said we collected a full truck load of needed items, similar to our last drive. They are extremely grateful for our participation in their quest. A large thank you to all our volunteers.
For our February gathering, we are meeting at the Tucson Racquet & Fitness Club Restaurant (4001 N Country Club Rd) on Monday, February 26 from 5:30-7:30pm.
The cost to participate is $36 per person (guests of Rotarians are welcome) and includes 5 tastings (2 whites & 3 reds) and light food presented by the knowledgeable wine representative who works with the restaurant. Attendees will pay The Racquet Club directly upon arrival.
Hello “Adopt a Road” volunteers! Now that I have completed my car show responsibilities 😉, I can move forward on launching the Adopt a Road program. Last week Lee, Jonathan, and Bruce met with a TCB contact to review our selected section of N Oracle Road (W River Road to W Wetmore Road).
The first cleanup will begin on Saturday, MARCH 9, 2024. Let’s meet in front of Fiesta Lanes Bowling (on River just west of Oracle) 501 W River Rd., at 7:15 am for a briefing and to hand out the equipment. The March date should give everyone time to plan and attend.
After 6 months of consistent clean-ups, we will receive a sign at the adopted site with our name The Rotary Club of Tucson. We can meet this requirement by cleaning up every other month or so. After each cleanup, we will submit a volunteer report.
For safety reasons, we are limited to 25 volunteers and NO ONE UNDER 18.
Tools and Supplies
Tucson Clean and Beautiful provides the necessary equipment to conduct the clean up e.g., safety vests, gloves, grabbers, trash bags, etc. I will pick supplies up this week.
You may want to bring your gloves and please bring your own water!

SAFETY GUIDELINE FOR VOLUNTEERS
● Wear toe covering shoes (no sandals)
● Long pants and long sleeves
● Gloves are recommended
● Bring sun hat and sunscreen
● Drink plenty of water
● Cell phone or headset use during clean ups is not allowed
● Do not pick up any of the following: medical waste, condoms, chemicals,
dead animals, hypodermic needles. If you encounter any of these
objects, please let your leader know (Leader may dispose this item safely
if you have already been briefed of how to dispose of them)
● Sharp objects such as broken glass may be collected with a broom/pan
or shovel by an adult
● Work in a group during daylight hours (7 a.m. to 5 p.m.)
