Rob Draper is President of O’Rielly Chevrolet, Inc., one of the nation’s largest Chevrolet dealerships and locally owned and operated since 1924. He is also the President of Rincon Etal Investments, Inc., which engages primarily in real estate development and investment and local venture investing.
Prior to moving to Tucson in 2002, Rob was a partner in the law firm of Winston & Strawn in Washington, D.C., where he practiced for twelve years in the areas of energy and international project finance. As an energy lawyer, he represented many of the U.S. utility companies that operate nuclear power plants with respect to licensing, regulatory compliance, contractual, and business advisory matters. As a project finance lawyer, he represented project developers and agencies such as the U.S. Export-Import Bank and Overseas Private Investment Corporation in their financing and development of power plants and other energy and infrastructure projects, mostly overseas.
Rob is a member of the Southern Arizona Leadership Council, Tucson Airport Authority, Tucson Conquistadores, and Tucson New Car Dealers Association. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Arizona Automobile Dealers Association and is a past member of the Boards of Directors of the Tucson Airport Authority, Catalina Council BSA, and Imagine Greater Tucson.
Rob grew up in Austin and Beaumont, Texas. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with majors in physics and political science from Williams College, Williamstown, Massachusetts, and a law degree from Southern Methodist University School of Law, Dallas, Texas. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the State Bar of Arizona, and the District of Columbia Bar.
Rob is married to Amy O’Rielly Draper, and they have three adult children. He enjoys travel, golf, sailing, skiing, and spending time with his family.
Our February 11th Events Around Town once again proved why EAT is such a club favorite. Rotarians spread out across Tucson, filling tables with laughter, lively conversation, and maybe a few “you had to be there” moments. These gatherings are always a wonderful opportunity to connect, share stories, and build friendships in a relaxed and casual setting—and this month delivered on all fronts.

The Ladies Events Around Town gathering at the Lodge on the Desert was lively, spirited, and brimming with excitement—especially when two new prospective members arrived unexpectedly. Allow us to introduce Bobby-Jo and Darlene. They were genuinely engaged in the lively table conversations and are thoughtfully considering joining our club.
Although they were a bit uncertain about the proper attire for the luncheon, the ladies welcomed them warmly, offering thoughtful guidance on dressing appropriately for such occasions, applying makeup with a light touch, and most importantly, carrying themselves with the quiet confidence and grace that define our club.
By the close of the luncheon, Bobby-Jo and Darlene appeared far more comfortable—and even inspired. The sparkle in their eyes suggested that this vibrant afternoon may well mark the beginning of their journey with us, the “remarkable” Rotary Club of Tucson! Thanks to Bobby-Jo and Darlene for spending time with the Rotary Ladies and we hope to see you both real soon!

The Rotary Legacy Society recognizes individuals and couples who have made a lasting commitment to The Rotary Club of Tucson Foundation by providing for a future gift to the Endowment Fund. It honors those ensuring the long-term sustainability of Rotary’s humanitarian, educational, and peace initiatives.
Rotarian friends, old and new, enjoyed a wonderful evening of fellowship and select wines at Flying Leap Vinyards Tasting Room on Thursday. Thank you to all who attended and to those who brought delicious appetizers!
Our next meeting will be Monday, February 16, at noon in the private room of El Charro restaurant (6910 E Sunrise Dr, Tucson, AZ 85750). We will be reviewing the book, The Boys in the Boat, and will have our own Hugh Thompson as a special guest speaker, as once-upon-a-time he was an alternate on the US Olympic Crew team.

Our February hike will shift towards a more urban feel enjoying the easy trek to the Bowen House in the Tucson Mountains. Departing from the Camino De Oeste trailhead in Tucson Mountain Park, we will begin the out and back hike covering a total distance of 2.3 miles and slight increase of about 135 vertical feet. The trail offers sweeping desert views and based on the weather we have been experiencing, I anticipate plenty of wild flowers. Hike time will be about 1.5 hours of outdoor camaraderie and likely followed by breakfast.

Rotarians—please join your fellow members as we continue our ongoing mission to clean up Oracle Road. There’s always roadside trash to tackle, and thanks to our efforts over the past two years, we can truly see the difference we’re making—the area is noticeably cleaner.
We’ll meet at Pinz Bowling, 501 W. River Road, at 8:15 AM and wrap up by mid-morning. Expect fresh air, a little light exercise, and the occasional “interesting” find along the way.
All supplies are provided, including gloves, safety vests, grabbers, and trash bags. We’ll also have snacks and water on hand.
Please wear closed-toe shoes, along with a hat and sunscreen.
