Ignite Sign Art Museum: Since April 10th is the second week of the month and there is no scheduled lunch meeting, we will be touring the Ignite Sign Art Museum. Here are the details: When: Wednesday, April 10th 331 S. Olsen Avenue Time: 11:30 a.m. (Flexible timing; folks can stay or go as they wish) Cost: $12 Per Person. Come out for a tour of the museum, a demonstration of neon sign making, a quiz answering contest. Meet afterwards at Floras Market for those that can continue the fun and fellowship. Sign up on the website and register your guests as well.
PRESIDENT MARGARET HIGGINS started off the meeting by introducing new member MICHAEL STEGEMAN who led us in the Pledge of Allegiance and “God Bless America” along with a special little guest: Marie.
Today our inspiration was from DAN KALM. He reminded us of all the rain we have had lately and of all the muddy puddles and leaky ceilings it left behind. Muddy puddles don’t do too much harm but those leaky ceilings…. Just like any problems in life need to be taken care of when the leaks are small.
SAA DAN KALM reminded everyone that we are the BEST Rotary club.. He then introduced us to all our wonderful guests.
DIANA MADARAS announced our service project participant winner DARRELL BIRKHIMER who participated in 7 days of service in March! Also, we have 15 service projects that our members can get involved in, check out our website for a listing of how you can participate. She then introduced our keynote speaker.
Today’s program featured Carol Stewart, Vice President UA Tech Parks Arizona who talked about “ University Based Economic Development.'' The Tech Park is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. Arizona Tech Park boasts 1300 acres, two million square feet of research, office, and lab space, 223 acres of a solar zone, eight companies with 10 different technologies and 6,000 employees. This campus is truly an economic hub. They have expanded their impact with the development of UA Tech Park at the Bridges, The Refinery Building and AZ Public Media among others. There is also the UA Center for Innovation which is a startup incubator. Over the last two years between 60 and 80 startup companies have been in this program!
We celebrated two birthdays today; JON WANG who’s first language was Hindi. CHRIS EDWARDS who recorded us doing the wave. Happy birthday!!

VIC JACOBS announced the winners for March Madness: DIANA MADARAS brought in the most new members, The team that brought in the most new members- JONATHON WALKUP and Seal Team Six, and finally the Champion was THE JAZZ CATS- BRANDI HAGA-BLACKMAN’S TEAM. Thank you Mitch and Dorinna for all your hard work to make this happen!
A Happy Jackson for DON REIGGER. The 25th annual Good Scouts Awards Luncheon takes place on Friday April 12th at the TCC, sign up at their website.
PRESIDENT MARGARET shared some really bad dad jokes with us and DAN KALM sent us off with a toast.
Updates for Saturday, April 13th for a mid-mountain hike in the Santa Catalinas. As with all of our hikes in the Catalinas, we will meet at the Le Buzz located in the mall at Tanque Verde and Catalina Highway. Meeting time will be 7:30AM with the intent to drive up to the trailheads for a start time of 8:30AM due to the expected high temperatures of 90 degrees in town. As the plan is to complete a point-to-point hike and as there have not been any positive responses yet, I am asking for RSVP if you will be joining. We can certainly car pool up the hill but will need at least 2 vehicles.
Please see below for trail description for the Moderate/Difficult category hike. Also, I am looking at this to be a point-to-point hike so not 8.8 but 4.4 miles. We can determine whether to start at Bug Spring Trailhead or Bear Canyon Picnic area, once we have a little better idea of the weather forecast
As we will be heading up the hill, we will plan on meeting at the Le Buzz located at Catalina Highway and Tanque Verde to stock up on caffeine and scones for the drive up! I hope to see you there and more to follow, soon.
Rotary Club of Tucson is sponsoring an all-inclusive Rotarian service project Saturday April 13, 2024 at the Triangle Y YMCA Ranch Camp from 8:30AM-1:00PM. The Annual Rotary Days Service Project is open to all Rotarians and friends of Rotarians and families. There are jobs for all age groups and skill levels. Generally, we help spruce up the Ranch for the incoming summer camp session that begins in June. In the past, we have painted cabins, stained wood beams, assembled and painted picnic tables, trimmed brush, painted the bathrooms, performed some small masonry work, and general clean up.
Registration is Saturday morning 8:00-8:30 AM at the Ranch. Please register at this link:https://rotaryd5500.org/event/rcot-service-project-at-triangle-y-ranch-camp/. A free lunch will be served at 1:00PM. Come for several hours or stay for just an hour. This is a good chance to mingle with Rotarians from all over Tucson. It is a great way to introduce Rotary to your friends and neighbors. Please bring gloves, sunscreen and a water bottle.
Our Home Hospitality events are scheduled for the week of April 21st through the 27th and we are looking for members to host during the week. These social events will replace our Wednesday, April 24th lunch meeting. If you are interested in hosting a small or large group at your home, place of business or even at a restaurant, please let Dorinna know the date, time, location and the amount of guests you will host.
This is a great opportunity to meet your fellow Rotarians during this Home Hospitality Week!
Adopt A Road Clean-Up: Saturday, April 27th at 7:15 am. As we did last time, we meet at 7:15 am at the Fiesta Bowling Lanes parking lot. 501 W River Road.
Please bring sunscreen, water, a hat, and gloves. We have safety vests, grabbers, and plastic bags. Our first effort had 14 club members and we filled a dozen bags of roadside trash! Our responsibility is Oracle Rd., from Wetmore to River.

Let’s Help UA Rotaractors with the Dental Kit Project on April 27 and May 2
The UA Rotaract Club has asked us to help them to pack 1325 dental kits on Saturday April 27th and deliver them to three schools on May 2. We’re cosponsoring this project so it would be great to join them in their efforts!
DENTAL KIT PACKING HELP NEEDED: SAT., APRIL 27 from 10-11:30 at University of AZ Modern Languages Building Rm. 311 (Just south of E. 2nd St. between Mountain and Cherry). Please sign up on ClubRunner if you can make it or contact Don Rollings who is our Rotaract advisor.
