What Is The History Of Our Club's Centerpieces?

The centerpieces are an idea that former club member and former club president, Phil Silvers brought back from Japan.  He had been “frustrated” as what to do with the trading banners that clubs exchange when they visit other clubs.  What use do clubs get out of them?  So, Phil got Woody Burr, a club member and an architect, to do them.  The saguaro were most likely Woody's idea. Woody bought the wood and cut them out with his jigsaw.  You can put four banners on each centerpiece and multiple centerpieces on each table, if desired.  They remind club members and visitors of Rotary's International presence.  Katie Dusenberry provided the initial set of boxes to store them.  Over the years, various members have been in charge of setting them out before the meetings and taking them down for storage after the meetings.  They have been used over the years at various other Rotary gatherings such as District Conferences and the pre-dinner for the Ride to End Polio.
