"Suds for Scholars" ~ Rotary Sales Record

NEW ROTARY SALES RECORDS set at 4^th Avenue:  The Rotary Club of Tucson “Suds for Scholars” Beer Booth Bums (SSBBB’s) worked tirelessly last Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the 4^th Ave Street Fair to raise money for our Scholarship Fund.  Nine different shifts were manned by 25 Rotarians, 6 Scholars (one of whom worked shifts on 2 different days), and 8 family members and friends (perhaps former friends now).  Our booth location was excellent and the SSBBB’s hoisted the Rotary flag and soared past previous total sales and tip revenues :  $27,615 in total beer, wine and water sales, and $1982 in tips!  5882 beverages were sold --  that’s 4.67 beverages per minute on average tho the peak was measured on Saturday afternoon at 28.64 per minute when the walls of the booth were temporarily  breached and a skirmish or two were lost.  But the SSBBB’s prevailed and the battle was won!  Special thanks to Shift Captains Chuck Sawyer and Bruce Richardson for charging through the chaos when the booth was constantly under siege by the thirsty masses.  The tales of tenacity and valor are too many to recount, but a good time was had by all, and most have likely recovered by now, though we are a little worried about Liz McMahon and Nancy Purdin who did double duty Saturday on the flank facing the hot sun, but who refused to step down until the day was done and victory was assured.  Gotta love that Rotary Club of Tucson Spirit!
