Hello Rotarians,As we prepared to host the Pre-Ride Dinner on the eve of the Ride to End Polio, we approached Rotary International with the following request. We had heard that a deal had been reached with the Taliban to once again support our going door-to-door to administer polio vaccine. This had not been possible under the prior regime. It’s not often we have something good to say about the Taliban. We asked if they could connect us with someone who had first hand knowledge of how this deal came about.
In response, we received this video from Dr. Hamid Jafari, the director for Polio Eradication for the Eastern Mediterranean for the World Health Organization. The address was created at his office in Amman, Jordan, and it is quite compelling. If you would like a deeper understanding of our efforts to rid the remaining countries of polio, or just to understand the role that our club plays in eradication, you will want to watch this 10 minute video.
