Following call to order by President BOB LOGAN, WES WIGGINS led us in the pledge and singing of The Star Spangled Banner with GARY HIRSCH on the piano. Our inspirational video was about a man who opened his hotel to flood victims to live and receive meals.
Scholarship Cup reminder of $4 /week or $52/quarter was announced by President BOB.
BOB SHAFF introduced guests and visitors after sharing 129 of our 253 members have completed their profile and encouraged us all to read IRENE DECKER’S profile for inspiration. Priscilla Casper of Channel KVOA-TV did a video introduction of Janos Wilder, who is Chef/Owner and Board President of Tucson City of Gastronomy with a Downtown Kitchen & Cocktails restaurant and The Carriage House restaurant. His presentation focused on “Leveraging Tucson City of Gastronomy Designation” as part of Tucson being recognized on the National Astronomy Registrar. With Tucson’s unique multi-cultural cultures and foods, ambassadors are now traveling to world countries to promote our astronomy opportunities and cuisine. As our guest speaker he signed a book for the Make Way for Books Library, “Every Color Soup”. Birthdays were celebrated by: MARGARET HIGGINS (a coal miner’s daughter); JOHN HEIMBAUGH (a bonsai tree developer); and BRUCE TUNZE (an Eagle Scout).
JENNIFER HOFFMAN introduced new member, and her Mom-in-Law, MELANIE HOFFMAN. President BOB read the official RI Welcome for new members. A standing ovation was given to welcome MELANIE.
SCOTT VAUGHAN and CHARLOTTE HARRIS did first time Paul Harris Fellow presentations to: SARA GAAR ENRENS; JEANNE FLOWER; and DAVE GALLAHER received his Paul Harris Fellow plus 5. Sergeant with Arms DARRELL STEWART oversaw the 50-50 raffle which was won by the second place winner who really was the first place winner, GERRY HALLOWELL.
President BOB made several announcements including a possible exchange with the St. Andrew’s Rotary Club in Scotland and Save the Date for our Holiday Mixer on December 17th where the Tucson Boys Chorus will sing. CINDY BARBEE and TAUREAN ORTIZ announced the Salvation Army Bell Ringing opportunity needs about 20 more volunteers. JASON GRABOSCH, 2019 Tucson Classics Car Show Chair, shared a warm and supportive letter by the winner of the car show Corvette; however their home needs roof repairs, so they took the money prize instead of the car.
President BOB extended an additional greeting to our visiting Rotarians and a thank you to our guests and announced if guests would like to know more about membership, please stop at the table at the back of the room to obtain membership information.
