President BRUCE JACOBS welcomed members to our meeting and, after another delicious buffet presented by the TCC staff, called the meeting to order at 12:15.  We watched another in the series of ‘Imagine’ videos. MICHAEL MANNI led us in the Pledge and KHRIS DODGE accompanied us as we sang ‘God Bless America’. We shared a moment of silence in honor of GEORGE LARSEN and in memory of his wife Margaret, who passed away last weekend.

New member BRITTANY BATTLE inspired us with the knowledge that Rotary is building social capital and she used her listening ears to show us what it truly means to listen to one another.

KHRIS DODGE welcomed our many guests and our virtual viewers.

Our speaker was introduced by Past President BOB LOGAN, and Dr. Kevin Lehman spoke about ‘How should we educate our children.’ He said that he will be speaking to us again in February about ‘Why Women are Weird.’ He described the Lehman Academy as ‘old school’, saying that “Learning ought to be fun” and that setting expectations (and using the stink eye) are effective. He signed the book ‘Go To School’ for the Make Way for Books library.

There were no birthdays to celebrate today, and LARRY ADAMSON introduced new member TOM McKINNEY, director of Interfaith Community Services. Tom grew up speaking French and worked for many years with Up With People, and for ten years with Make A Wish in Minneapolis. He moved back to Tucson where he spent 5 years with the Tucson Symphony before taking the helm at IFCS.  Welcome to the club, TOM!

SCOTT VAUGHAN presented her Paul Harris to MARCIA KRUMWIEDE, who was born in Tucson and returned after college graduation. She started her own company, Love Your Body Sculpting after a long career in technical services with Copper State.  Her gift of little or no value was actually cute – a Rotary mug filled with bright yellow flowers!

KHRIS DODGE pulled the winning ticket and U of A grad JASON FLAX, who works for Lovitt & Touche in Insurance and Risk Management: Employee Benefits, won the auction, but not the King of Clubs. Dr. Lehman suggested that all of the losers just “Deal with it!”.

JEANNE ZETAH celebrated the fact that, as of today, we are at 98.6% of our goal for car show tickets sold. This should increase once all of the sales have been counted. Way to go, Rotary!

President BRUCE thanked all for coming, welcomed TOM to the club, congratulated MARCIA on her Paul Harris, led us in a toast and we were adjourned.
