KANDIE VACTOR Car Show Supporter par Excellence gave the inspiration thanking all of our members and all 400 volunteers for helping make the Car Show a great success. President CHUCK led us in the Pledge and Song, “My Country ‘Tis of Thee”. MIKE DALTON introduced our guests and visiting Rotarians.
We had two Birthday Rotarians:
- Past President and Past Car Show Chairman JIM MURPHY remembered his sponsor George Hawke, spoke about how valuable the Four Way Test has been for his experience, and how much fun it is to have two daughters in Rotary.
- ROB LAMASTER helps manage the family farm in the Texas Panhandle. ROB’s biggest discovery about Rotary is what took him so long? ROB promised to settle up with JERRY HARRIS for their $1 bet on the Texas Tech / Ole Miss game.
Sergeant at Arms BOBBY LARSON led the raffle and auctioned tickets donated by Past President JON WANG – thank you JON!
We had the following announcements:
- President CHUCK reviewed the upcoming schedule as affected by the Car Show.
- President CHUCK also reviewed our current ticket sales (sell more, more, more!!)
- STACIA DECKER and PAT DAVITT announced that there are 67 seats remaining for the Friday Night Silent Auction and Banquet.
- Past President CLIFF BOWMAN called for all hands on deck since we are in “desperate” need for volunteers – sign up now!
- … and Past President JONI CONDIT invited us all to the annual Token Counting Party next Tuesday at 6 PM with help from Rotaract students.
Past President JIM MURPHY returned to the dais to introduce the 2018 Car Show Chairperson, the talented and amazing BRUCE JACOBS. BRUCE loves beer, attended college at the same time as his mom, and loves being a realtor. BRUCE
reintroduced the theme for the Car Show “Terrific Twelfth - It Takes a Village" and reviewed the key facts. BRUCE noted that there are 16 days 20 hours and a few minutes until the day after the Car Show. BRUCE thanked our angel supporter, MIKE ANDERSON who has again stepped up as our headline sponsor. BRUCE also thanked the members of our Strategic Leadership Team, Tactical Leadership Team and the many volunteers it takes to put on the car show every year. BRUCE reviewed the key things to know about volunteering (see the handout – too numerous to list here!) and urged everyone to show up 15 minutes early and stay to say thank you to the car show participants as they exit the field. Thanks for all your efforts, BRUCE!
BRUCE signed a book for our MWFB's library: “A Busy Creature’s Day Eating”
President CHUCK closed the meeting with a quote from the host of “Top Gear” Jeremy Clarkson: “It’s what non-car people don’t get. They see all cars as just a ton and a half, two tons of wires, glass, metal, and rubber, and that’s all they see. People like you or I know we have an unshakable belief that cars are living entities.”
