Katherine Byrnes ~ Biography
International award-winning vocalist Katherine Byrnes is the full package, singing jazz, Broadway, rock, and classical genres. In addition to her role as Assistant Producer of Tucson’s Gaslight Theatre, she fronts the indie-folk band Sweet Ghosts and regularly stars in shows paying tribute to luminaries such as Barbra Streisand, Janis Joplin, and Carole King.
Growing up in the Tucson Foothills, Katherine began singing in the first grade when she took a melodrama class and sang Matchmaker from Fiddler on the Roof. "I loved it!” she says. "I grew up performing in Kids Unlimited, which taught me stage presence and performing. As a freshman at The University of Arizona I pursued musical theatre at first, and then transferred to the School of Music to study vocal jazz. As I went out into the performing world, I began to understand that you don't have to choose one type of music to focus on. I now enjoy singing a wide array of genres: jazz, musical theatre, classical, pop, rock, blues, etc."
