Diane Ventura Goodyear ~ Biography (This Meeting Will Be Filmed In Studio and Posted on the YouTube Channel)

Diane Ventura Goodyear was inducted into the Saguaro Rotary Club of Tucson in 2008. As club president, she presided over the merger of two of the oldest Tucson Rotary Clubs, Old Pueblo and Saguaro. That year the club earned a Presidential Citation. She is also a member of the Paul Harris Society.

At the District level, she has worn many hats: she built the first District ClubRunner website; served as an Assistant Governor for Region 9, and was selected to attend the Zone Institute as an Emerging Leader. Diane has been the Newsletter editor; PI Chair; an instructor at PETS and Assembly; and is both an RLI and RLA alumna. In 2017, Diane traveled to Uganda as part of a Vocational Training Team (VTT) focused on “Empowering Women” and currently serves on The Rotary Vocational Fund of AZ (TRVFA) Board and the Ride to End Polio Committee.

Diane taught Computer Science at Pima Community College for 12 years and has been the owner and operator of The ComputerNanny business for over 20. She is also a Yoga Instructor with a focus on health and well-being for all ages and enjoys computer-generated machine embroidery.

Originally from Upstate, NY, Diane has a Business Management degree from Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) with an MBA in Technology Management. Besides living in the USA, she and Gordon, her husband of 35 years, have lived in Canada, England, and back to the United States. They have 2 children and love the South West.

Mystery Editor ~ 1/6/21
Thank you, PRESIDENT JEN HOFFMAN, for “zooming” thirty-six Rotarians into the first Rotary Club of Tucson virtual Zoom meeting of 2021.  Next time, we’ll “mute off” for the Pledge of Allegiance.  American singer and song writer, Carrie Underwood, gave a very memorable Star Spangled Banner rendition which was followed by the inspirational Holiday Season Giving video.

PAST PRESIDENT JIM MURPHY, who was introduced by PP JON WANG, inspired and educated us with his virtual presentation, “Rotary’s Role in Helping Tucson Kids Learn to Read.”  Please read the emailed January 6 Tucsotarian for understanding our Rotary challenge and for the excellent PP JIM biography.

PP JIM’S vision:
“Rotary could be a catalyst to bring our members and their resources together with so many others in the community and hopefully make a significant impact in improving literacy in our community, thereby reducing many of the negative outcomes and costs from illiteracy.”

Thank you, PP CHARLOTTE, for assisting this M.E. with the following history:
“JIM MURPHY was our club president when the challenge came from The Rotary Foundation, in regards to their centennial, to have a club project that would be meaningful and lasting.   Children's Literacy was selected with the plan to expand our Robison Reading Coaches program.  Reading Seed was selected out of 14 proposals where trained adult volunteer coaches would work with students on a weekly basis for 30 minutes each.  JIM chaired the Reading Seed Board that oversaw the Reading Seed Office activities and at one time 900 coaches were in 92 schools.  Totally funded by our Rotary Club, the Tucson Classics Car Show was developed and successfully financially supported Reading Seed and has the positive results of an opportunity for club member fellowship.”

The Rotary Club of Tucson will support Make Way for Books and JTED (Joint Technical Education District) as we enter our centennial year.  Avail yourself of PRESIDENT JEN’S first virtual and PP JIM’S excellent presentation on YouTube. You will appreciate the comments made by PP JIM LUBINSKI, PP JON WANG AND PP ROGER HARWELL.

Please take note of the online Rotary Leadership Institute.

Thank you, Maggie Kosinski, for joining us from Charleston, SC.  Hurry back to The Old Pueblo.

“READING STARTS AT BIRTH.”

WE’LL BREAK OUT IN ’21 FOR THE TUCSON CLASSICS CAR SHOW CHAIRED BY PP JONI CONDIT.

Welcome to the Rotary Club of Tucson!
In Memory of Longtime Member Sid Hirsh
We have decided to run this memorial again since Chuck Sawyer will be reflecting on the Rotary life of member Sid Hirsh in the upcoming virtual meeting.

It is with a very heavy heart to announce the passing of longtime member, Sid Hirsh.  Sid passed away on a “Rotary Wednesday” - 12/9/20.  He was a member of our club for 36 years joining in 1983.  Sid was 90 years old and had been in a nursing home.  We have been informed by wife Martha and daughter Jen; a Celebration of Life will take place when all can be together sometime hopefully soon.  Let us all take a moment to remember Sid and take some steps to walk in his shoes as he touched the lives of so many in our club and in our community.  Below is a link about Sid.  We will certainly miss him.

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards
Leadership Program

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards is a leadership program coordinated by Rotary Clubs around the globe. Each year, thousands of young people participate in this program. Young people ages 13–30 are sponsored by Rotary Clubs to attend the event run by the club's district committee. Participants are chosen for their leadership potential. Rotary Clubs and the Rotary District cover all expenses for the participants. The format of the event vary from district to district, but commonly take the form of a seminar, camp, or workshop to discuss leadership skills and to learn those skills through practice. Rotary clubs and districts select participants and facilitate the event's curriculum.
