Mystery Guest Speaker ~ Biography

This individual was proposed for membership in Rotary by his sponsor repeatedly - because initially the application was rejected on the basis of occupational status. Being a Ph.D and a college vice-president in charge of research was considered, in the guidelines of yesteryear, to be insufficient. Once cleared through the membership process, he quickly and enthusiastically became involved in Club service. His aptitude and appetite for service work soon took him up to Board of Directors, then Club President. As he continued to be productive, he went on to be District Governor and then Zone Director and eventually to the Board room of Rotary International Headquarters in Evanston, Illinois. Along the way, there were many adventures in international travel, Rotary service, and the rewards of elevating the living and educational standards for those less fortunate worldwide. And all of this through service in Rotary!
Mystery Editor ~ 11/4/20
This Mystery Editor appreciates PRESIDENT JEN HOFFMAN for her well organized and Covid safe Rotary meetings.  The Pledge of Allegiance, the patriotic song and the inspirational video set the positive tone for all Rotarians—whether present or virtual.

Kudos go to BRUCE JACOBS for organizing a well-attended social mixer at Three Canyon and to WAYNE MEYER for heading the golf fellowship.  We were introduced to two guests, Whitney Lennon and Donna Drumheller, who attended the meeting to check out our remarkable Rotary Club.

When PAST PRESIDENT JIM RONSTADT gives the introduction of our program, we take notice.  Judy McDermott, Executive Director of First Tee Tucson, detailed us on how the lives of “kids” in our community are positively impacted by “building game changers” through golf.  Ages 5 to 18 are exposed to the life enhancing values of golf: honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, courtesy and judgment.  Staff and volunteers empower these young boys and girls to pursue their goals and give them the care and support so needed by so many.  “If our children are well, then our community is well.”  Judy’s golfing history goes back to her childhood and then her playing days at UCLA.  She has been a valuable asset to our community dating back to 1992 when she was recruited to join the Tucson Conquistadores in management of the PGA TOUR Tucson Open.

PRESIDENT ELECT MARK IRVIN’s birthday was loudly celebrated.  Now, here’s a guy who knows Tucson’s commercial real estate.

Let us not forget PRESIDENT JEN’S Running for Rotary.  Candidates for the RCoT Board—JOE DANISZEWSKI, LYUDA EISENMAN, MARCY EULER, JEANNE FLOWER, ROB LAMASTER and JENNY VOLPE—were introduced by PAST PRESIDENT CHUCK SAWYER.  PAST PRESIDENT BOB SHAFF gave an interesting spotlight on JEANNE FLOWER.

Thank you, JEANNE ZETAH and DANIELLE BAILLIERE, for making the TCCS auction so successful.  Thank you, JOE DANISZEWSKI for heading the 27,929 TCCS ticket sales.  Thank you, PAST PRESIDENT CLIFF, for chairing our TCCS and making a difference for Make Way for Books and for JTED.  ANN MARSH and LYNN DEVOU, we’ll give those Handbags of Hope!

Wow, what a memorable year RCoT is having!  PRESIDENT JEN gave her toast and the meeting was adjourned.
Replacement/Social Mixer ~ Proof in St. Philip's Plaza
Our Replacement/Social Mixer is the evening of November 18th.  This mixer will be held at Proof on the patio (St. Philip's Plaza), 4340 N. Campbell Avenue from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.   Due to COVID-19 Guidelines, the event is limited to 60 people.  We will follow all the safety guidelines (masks, hand sanitizer, distancing, and signed waivers will be needed from all those attending who have not previously submitted).  Guests are invited, the fee is $20 and will be billed to your account.   All must register for the event on the club website www.tucsonrotary.org scroll down the left side to "Upcoming Events" and click on Replacement Social Mixer for 11/18/20.  Make sure to register your guest.  If you have any questions, please call the Rotary office.

Let's have some fun!  Please remember, there is NO LUNCH MEETING on November 18th.
Handbags of Hope
The Handbags Of Hope project is being head up by members Ann Marsh and Lynn Devou.  All donations will be going to the women in need at The Haven.  Ann and Lynn will be collecting handbags at each weekly meeting and if you cannot make the meetings, you may drop the bags off at the Rotary Office.  Any questions, please call Ann or Lynn.

Rotary Youth Exchange
Will your Club sponsor a student? Yes, even in the face of the pandemic Rotary Clubs from around the globe continue to express interest in exchanging with us in Southern Arizona. We have also had several local youth contact us about finding a Rotary Club that will sponsor them for the 2021-22 academic year. Hope is alive and well in these young people! All prospective outbound students must have a local club that is willing to sponsor them. Clubs may opt to sponsor and co-host students with another Club to share the financial and club counselor responsibilities. Contact Aimee Graves at YouthExchangeOfficer@RotaryD5500.org for questions and suggestions.
#runningforrotary
My fellow Rotarians,

I have laced up my running shoes and started #runningforrotary. I usually run 12-18 miles per week or 48-72 miles per month. You can find a form on our website www.tucsonrotary.org, under the “Member Area” tab, top right corner of the home page, or request one from Dorinna or Kari. You can sponsor me mile for mile for a month, a few months or the entire year. Your donations will go to the area of your choice for our Rotary Club Foundation or even Rotary International. How far do you think I will go #runningforrotary this year?  I would like to thank those members who have already signed up and pledged a donation.

Thank you for your support,

President Jen
