President KURTIS DAWSON called the meeting to order at 12 noon from the Tucson Convention Center. During our lunch we mixed and mingled at selected tables and were asked to answer a couple of questions.  The lunch featured delicious beef and chicken and as always, the TCC banquet staff were attentive to the hungry Rotarians.

 

The opening of the meeting featured the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag lead by AMANDA WOOD and the rendition of “America the Beautiful”. A heartwarming Inspiration was given by MITCH PISIK.

 

President KURTIS kicked off the formal part of the meeting by introducing KHRIS DODGE, who thanked our guests for coming to the meeting. No program today as this meeting was all about the popular Mix and Mingle Program featuring 14 community projects Rotarians were invited to be part of. But first…

 

Today’s birthday member was ART ALLIS, a long-time member since 1992 and retired hospitality manager. Happy Birthday ART!!!

 

NINA TRASOFF was called upon to introduce former Rotarian Jan Lesher, Pima County Administrator, as a new honorary member. JAN shared a few words of thanks to the club for this honor. Nice to see the County leader part of Tucson Rotary again.  

 

JOE DANISZEWSKI was called up to present a Blue Badge to JAMAL GIVENS.  Congratulations on your Blue!

 

Sergeant at Arms KRIS DODGE jumped into action with the famous Rotary raffle with no big winner again. The big pot is risen to over $1,500.

 

Following the formal part of the meeting DIANA MADARAS introduced the community project leaders and the organization they represented.  Participating in these projects will give members an opportunity to win some serious gifts assembled by her committee. Members signed up for their favorite projects. Signing up can still be accomplished by contacting the Leader of the Project.  A list of projects is on the home page of the website.  We were reminded to complete the Points Sheet, also found on the home page, to win one of those fabulous prizes.

 

Our next lunch meeting is September 18, as we welcome JIM MURPHY, from the Grants Committee and presentations from the charities for the 2025 car show proceeds. Special area luncheons “Events Around Town” are being held during our off-week meeting, September 11. Registration for one of the events is on the Rotary website under Upcoming Events.

 

The meeting was adjourned at 1:10 pm with a toast by MITCH to conclude the meeting. This meeting was not recorded.

Thank you to those hearty souls that have volunteered to help keep Tucson Clean and Beautiful.  The results are very apparent with a much cleaner street! The team has worked on our road (Oracle from Wetmore to River) three times to date.

 

The next clean ups are scheduled as follows – all Saturdays and we start at 7:15am.  Please wear closed-toed shoes, a hat and use sunscreen.

I just wanted to get this advisement out for the final trek of the First Annual Summer Hiking Series.  This is always a great trail with great views of the city.  Martha and I are hopeful to see another large group like the June trip and this is always a popular one.

We will meet at LeBuzz located at Tanque Verde & Catalina Highway.  This is a moderate hike covering just under 4 miles with 831 feet of vertical with hiking time of approximately 2.5 hours.   As always, a stop for a bite/beverage at one of the local establishments is likely. 

 

We'll have a weed restoration project on Saturday September 21 at 7:00 a.m. at 1028 S. Park Ave. and another Donation Drive on October 2.

Hello Cyclists,

 

Lee Olitzky and I are planning the next Rotary Cycling Fellowship to be on Saturday October 26 at 8 AM starting at St Phillips Plaza South side parking lot near the loop.  We will start together but each rider can choose their own route and distance.  Riders should wear a Rotary cycling jersey.  This ride is meant to be a training ride for the El Tour de Tucson and the Ride to End Polio.  Questions please contact:  Alan Rogers, 520-444-8941, buck@casadelmilagro.com
