Real Estate Market Update
Renee' Gonzales ~ Biography

Chief Executive Officer Reneé Gonzales oversees leadership and strategic planning for all of Long Companies, including Brokerage, Mortgage, Title and Insurance. Gonzales moved up from executive vice president of Core Services, president of Long Title Agency and managing director of Long Mortgage Co.—roles she’ll continue to hold as part of her CEO position. Gonzales heads-up and works closely with the company’s executive leadership team.

Reneé joined Long Companies in 2002 to oversee its mortgage operations. She led the 2004 start-up of Long Mortgage Co. and served as president of the new division before moving, in 2009, into the role of executive vice president within Long Companies. Under Gonzales’ leadership, Prosperity Home Mortgage and Agave Title Agency have grown to be among the leaders of their industries in Pima County.

A nationally recognized and in-demand thought leader and speaker, Gonzales’ work with HomeServices of America, The Realty Alliance—a network of North America's top real estate companies—and other real-estate trade groups has cemented her reputation as an expert on multiple real-estate topics.

A Nebraska native, Reneé holds a bachelor’s degree in business, with an emphasis in finance and human resources, from Nebraska Wesleyan University. Her passions include running and being a mother to her daughter, Zoe. Her philosophy of providing exceptional service throughout the entire home buying process strengthens her understanding of the importance of working closely with a realty company to give the borrower the best service available. Her life motto is to live every day to its fullest and don’t let anything stand in your way of having a fun and enjoying life!

Long Companies is comprised of Long Realty Company, Prosperity Home Mortgage, Agave Title Agency and Long Insurance Group – all working together to create a full range of real estate services and products. Based in Tucson, Long Realty Company, a Berkshire Hathaway affiliate and wholly owned subsidiary of HomeServices of America, Inc., is the leading real estate brokerage company operating in southern Arizona. It offers an unparalleled level of award winning residential and commercial real estate services through a network of more than 1,400 licensed real estate associates in more than 41 offices, including 25 affiliate realty and property management companies that are independently owned and operated throughout Arizona and into Mexico. Long Realty Company has been helping generations of Arizonans achieve their dreams of home ownership since 1926.

PRESIDENT BRUCE JACOBS welcomed all to the meeting. There was a bit of confusion on how to make the gavel work with the bell and fortunately Past President MARK IRVIN was there to assist. No worries PRESIDENT BRUCE, you have a whole year to make that bell ring!

THOMAS ROBERTSON led the Pledge of Allegiance and song “You’re a Grand Ole Flag.”

PRESIDENT BRUCE held a moment of silence for DICK GUTHRIE who passed away on June 28th. There will be a Memorial Service on August 6th at St. Phillips in the Hills Episcopal Church. We signed cards offering our condolences to DICK’s wife Pat Dunford.  DAVID PASHKOW has been fighting an illness and we also signed cards with well wishes for him. Get well soon DAVID!

The Inspiration was a video of Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy playing piano and singing “Imagine” by John Lennon. Past President MARK IRVIN offered some insight on how PRESIDENT BRUCE was asked and agreed to become our club’s President. It was during the first, and only, hike they have ever done together.

PRESIDENT BRUCE talked about his trip to the Rotary International Convention that was held in Houston, TX, USA this year. He felt blessed to have missed going to an exotic foreign country. There were 11,000 in attendance…about a third of what was typical before the pandemic. Other members of our club who attended were ERNIE & SALLY MONTAGNE, JEANNE ZETAH, ANGELA MOORE, LYNN DEVOU and WES WIGGINS. Next, BRUCE offered acknowledgments to MARK IRVIN giving him his well deserved Past President Badge and theme banner.  Bruce thanked his wife, Erin Jacobs and offered a special thanks to Dorinna and Kari. They do so much to keep our club running smooth. BRUCE introduced the current board members as well as those that are participating with District 5500. BRUCE said, “This is OUR year!” When asked “What is Rotary?” He responded, “At Rotary we create memories and we inspire.”

The theme for this year is “Imagine” as selected by Jennifer Jones the Rotary International President for 2022-2023. There are four areas for focus: Impact, Expand Reach, Enhance Engagement and Adapt. PRESIDENT BRUCE outlined his goals for this year. They are: Increase Engagement, Inspire & Create Memories, Enhance Member Experience and Create a Companion Club. He’s going to stay focused on the future and what is to become in the next 100 years. Go BRUCE!

WAYNE MEYER celebrated his birthday on July 4th. He was born by his father who had just finished medical school in Iowa. ALAN ROGERS will celebrate his birthday on July 18th. Alan’s greatest achievement may be that he took the Homecoming Queen to the Prom. It’s been downhill since I suppose. Next, PRESIDENT BRUCE introduced BRUCE JACOBS who will celebrate his birthday on July 19th. It got a bit confusing, but we did learn that BRUCE has jumped out of a perfectly good airplane.

SCOTT VAUGHAN introduced our two newest Paul Harris Award recipients who were both celebrating the 5th Paul Harris Award! MARIANNE FREITAS and DOT KRET have been great members of our club.

ROB LAMASTER introduced our newest member TOM LICKLITER. Among his many dangerous talents, TOM is a champion axe thrower who competed in the world championships. TOM is also an excellent mountain biker.  Welcome TOM!

MARK IRVIN announced the Board Slate Schedule that will be coming up very soon. BRUCE RICHARDSON announced a hike that will have happened by the time you read this. They will be hiking on Mt. Lemmon and putting in a solid 9+ miles of foot-powered fun. TOM STRASBURG gave a Blue Badge to newish member JON HARNED who has gone full-in with our club. JEANNE ZETAH gave a summary of current ticket sales for 2022. We have a long way to go and she encouraged us to sell tickets online. PRESIDENT BRUCE let us know that the cost for a meal for Attendance Exempt members (Rule of 85, Family and Leave of Absence members) has risen to $26.50 from $25.00.

PRESIDENT BRUCE ended his first meeting as President with a toast and we were on our way.

Miles of Memories
Miles of Memories

I shared with those in attendance on the 13th that this next year I want us to share “Miles of Memories” together. I referenced the memories we have created together over the years and the impact we have had in so many others lives as well as our own.

The children and the parents receiving the grass ball field in San Carlos transformed from a dirt lot. The recipients and their families that obtained their mobility by receiving a wheelchair in Nogales. The memories of our member that participated along with the memories of working together on various local workday projects. Our hiking, golf, home hospitality fellowships and the list goes on.

I ask for you to help me on “our journey” over this next year by sponsoring me in the “Miles of Memories.” My goal is to walk a minimum of 35 miles a week, 1,825 for the year and honestly want to surpass 2000+. I would like for you to consider donating by the mile and we will share the outcome at the first meeting of each month on my progress.

Donations can go to the Foundation toward a Paul Harris, the President’s Discretionary Fund, or others of your choosing. I want us to have fun on our journey over this next year and to INSPIRE each other and our benefactors through the world of Rotary.

Thank you for your support in making our 102nd year one where we create memories together.

Update From The Hiking Committee
We had a beautiful day on Saturday for a challenging hike on Mount Lemmon.  Joined by Rotarians Mitch Pisik, President Bruce, Peter Beahan, Khris Dodge as well as friends Bill Mesch, Mike and Mario, we set out on our adventure from the summit.  Covering 9.4 miles and 2,000 vertical feet, this group of adventurers explored the Mount Lemmon trail, Wilderness of Rocks to the saddle and descended to the Marshall Gulch trailhead.  Thanks to all that were there and for those wanting to join on future hikes, save the date of Saturday, August 20th for our next adventure on Mount Lemmon!
