Rotary Youth Leadership Awards
Hello everyone,

Our Rotary District 5500 will be conducting a Virtual RYLA on January 22 and 23 of 2021. The District Youth Team is developing a program of leadership and team building for young people working with adult and peer advisors. Contact Diana Cannon, 520-245-8862 or Joe Daniszewski, 520-245-4350, if you would like to serve on staff.

Below is a brief description of our RYLA program:

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards
Leadership Program

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards is a leadership program coordinated by Rotary Clubs around the globe. Each year, thousands of young people participate in this program. Young people ages 13–30 are sponsored by Rotary Clubs to attend the event run by the club's district committee. Participants are chosen for their leadership potential. Rotary Clubs and the Rotary District cover all expenses for the participants. The format of the event vary from district to district, but commonly take the form of a seminar, camp, or workshop to discuss leadership skills and to learn those skills through practice. Rotary clubs and districts select participants and facilitate the event's curriculum.

Indoor Ride to End Polio Is A Success!
Rotary Club of Tucson Indoor Ride to End Polio is a Success!

Thanks to the support of our Rotary members and their friends, our ten member Indoor Ride to End Polio team raised to date $7,775, which with the Gates Match is $23,325.  That most certainly will help with immunizations in the two final endemic countries: Afghanistan and Pakistan. Team members included: Jo DeChatelet, Gary Hirsch, Kandy Hirsch, Charlotte Harris, Jen Hoffman, Dot Kret, Bobby Larson, Ellie Patterson, Steve Pickering and Hugh Thompson.  Team members had to innovate their Ride as we were not able to use our traditional Spin Room, so some members rode at home on stationary bikes, or their health club, one member rode 50 miles with another club and a number of the team members rode The Loop along the Rillito River. Our Ride was submitted to Rotary International in support of World Polio Day!
Salvation Army Bell Ringing ~ 12/19/20
We had a beautiful and safe day of bell ringing for the Salvation Army this past Saturday.  Being the last weekend before Christmas, people were rushing to get their shopping done but many generous local stoppers dropped change and bills into the kettles as our gracious Rotary volunteers rang the Salvation Army bell.

Salvation Army Bell Ringing ~ 12/19/20
If you weren’t able to ring or stop by one of our Rotary locations this year, there is still time to contribute the Salvation Army Christmas Kettle collections and help boost our competitive efforts to keep our top place as a civics’ group fundraiser by donating to the virtual kettle, don’t forget they add both the funds raised from the bell-ringing together with the virtual kettle donations.  You can donate here… https://give-sw.salvationarmy.org/team/331869 .

Thank you to everyone who has already participated in volunteering, donating and sharing the virtual kettle link!
