Outside of work, Jennifer enjoys golfing, hiking and spending time with her husband and two teenaged children.
Rotary President KURTIS DAWSON called the meeting to order at 12:15 PM from the Tucson Convention Center. He shared member KEITH WIEGAND recently had neck surgery and passed some cards around for the members to sign.
The opening of the meeting featured the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag lead by THOMAS GOMEZ and the rendition of “America the Beautiful”. A heartwarming Inspiration was given by JASON FLAX. The lunch featured delicious chicken and fresh greens. As always TCC banquet staff were attentive to the hungry Rotarians.
President KURTIS kicked off the formal part of the meeting by introducing BRITTANY BATTLE who thanked our guests for coming to the meeting. A very large group from Pima Community College including some students were in attendance.
MARY EULER, a Rotarian, and part of the Pima Community College Foundation, who sponsored the meeting, introduced today’s speaker, PCC Chancellor, Jeffrey Nasse, PhD. Being new to his position, Dr. Nasse’s program consisted of him talking about his first “100 days and Beyond”. His entire presentation can be seen on the Rotary Club of Tucson Rotary Channel on YouTube. Dr. Nasse signed the book “Time for School Mouse” to be placed in the Make Way For Books library.
Today’s only birthday featured MICHAEL DEEHAN from Loews Ventana Resort. Happy birthday MICHAEL!
STEVE PICKERING was called upon to introduce our newest member, THOMAS GOMEZ. THOMAS is involved in Banking and currently works at Southwest Heritage Bank. Congratulations THOMAS on being our newest Rotary Club member.
CHAR HARRIS honored BILL HARLOW and JOE DANISZEWSKI with their Paul Harris honor. Congratulations and thank you for your generous donations to Rotary.
Filling in for Sergeant at Arms KRIS DODGE, BRITTANY BATTLE launched into the Rotary raffle and the winner received around $90. The big card wasn’t pulled, so the pot continues to jump ahead.
Following this excitement, President KURTIS shared the Rotary Announcements with everyone and directed all to see the sheet on the table. Of course, we were reminded by seeing a platter full of cookies and the author of this recap couldn’t resist. He reminded everyone that Wilbur is still missing from the recent trips and gave a rather passionate plea for all the Wilburs to return to Tucson. KURTIS asked the members to donate to EREY. MATT BLAIR gave an update on the Membership Derby. DAVE WHITE asked members to sell car show tickets at the upcoming events. We need those ticket sales.
PE DOT KRET introduced the 2026-2027 Rotary Club of Tucson President, BOBBY LARSON. Congratulations BOBBY. Thank you for your service to the Club and we look forward to your leadership during your Rotary year.
Our next lunch meeting is March 5 featuring TMC Health CEO, Jennifer Mendrzycki and all were reminded to view and sign up for the Events Around Town on March 12th and save the date for the April 30 Event at the MO Club.
The meeting was adjourned at 1:20 pm with a toast by JASON FLAX.

Inviting prospective members to Rotary events is a great way to showcase the club's values and service. The Club covering the cost of lunch for first-time attendees is a generous touch that can make newcomers feel welcome and appreciated. It's all about building connections and strengthening our impact in the community. We encourage you to bring your prospective members to a club meeting. They won’t be disappointed.
Kandie and Drew graciously share why they are a part of the Legacy Society:
Rotary has been an integral part of our lives for almost 40 years. At first, it was a great way for me to get out of my business once a week and see how other businesses were doing in Tucson. It was also a way to give back by participating in various Rotary Work Projects as well as helping achieve our Club’s financial goals. When I retired in 2000, I at first thought there would be no further relevance but was seriously mistaken as Rotary became our community.Kandie and I now travel frequently, and Rotary has become even more important as our touchstone to Tucson when we are in town.
With all this background, we realized how important Rotary has been in our lives and decided to immortalize that importance with a major financial contribution.About that time our Rotary Club of Tucson Foundation began a “Legacy Society.”The invitation to join offered the flexibility of contributing at any time including in a bequeath via our will.A short update to our trust made that happen seamlessly without impacting our income stream. We chose to dedicate our contribution to one of the endowments, which allows the corpus to continue benefiting Rotary long after we are no longer able to do so.
We are thankful for all that Rotary does to make our community and our planet a better place to live.Knowing that our participation in the Rotary Club of Tucson Foundation Legacy Society will be a part of our Tucson Foundation’s efforts to perpetuate this contribution to our hometown is empowering and makes us feel great about our small part in this meaningful program.
Thanks so much, Kandie and Drew, for sharing your reasons for joining.
Please, Rotary Club of Tucson members, consider becoming a part of our Legacy Society.
Talk to any of us.

Subject: Rotary Hiking Fellowship, Mount Wrightson hike on Saturday, March 8th, 6:30AM meet for 8AM hike
Our upcoming hike is going to offer a variation of choices as far as length, level of difficulty and time required. At this time, there are at least two planned treks with a group hiking to the summit via the Old Baldy Trail and another that will be going to the Saddle and back. I am hopeful that this adventure in the Mount Wrightson Wilderness will appeal to a broader group and be of interest to many.
As there will be an hour drive to reach the trailheads in Madera Canyon, those interested in hiking will be meeting at El Con Mall in the parking lot in front of the Target store. Meet time will be 6:30AM for the commute/carpool with intended hike start time at 8AM. Due to the logistics and planning I ask that all intending to join, RSVP and also plan for a full day. As the Old Baldy hike will take over 7 hours to complete.
As always, please be sure to bring plenty of water (I will have 4 liters), snacks, lunch, electrolytes and sun screen. With the updates to the area weather forecast projected temperatures are going to be cooler than originally anticipated but still under sunny skies with no projected rain and light winds. Overall lows for Madera Canyon and Mount Wrightson Wilderness are lows in the mid 30's and only reaching low 50's. Summit temperature will likely only be in the 40's so make sure to dress in layers. It will still be a great day to be on the mountain.
Want to find the best trails in Mount Wrightson Wilderness for an adventurous hike or a family trip? AllTrails has 27 great trails for hiking, birding, and camping and more. Enjoy hand-curated trail maps, along with reviews and photos from nature lovers like you. Ready for your next hike or bike ride? We've got you covered, with trails ranging from 935 to 5,902 feet in elevation gain.

Calling all Rotarians – it’s time to roll up those sleeves and make a difference! We need 40 energetic, fun-loving volunteers to help pack food for those in need. Get ready for some hard work, a ton of laughs, and the satisfaction of giving back to the community. Great service in January where we packed over 250,000 lbs. of food for our "neighbors". Rotary Rocks!
At the Rotary Club of Tucson, we believe in giving back to our community and supporting causes that make a real difference. And now, it’s easier than ever to contribute to our efforts!
We’re excited to highlight a new way for you to make your donations directly to the Rotary Club of Tucson Foundation – all from the comfort of your own home! Simply head to our website, where you’ll find the gold Donation button at the top right of the menu bar.
