Mystery Editor ~ 5/23/18

President CLIFF BOWMAN called the meeting to order a few minutes early.

PAT ZUMBUSCH gave a wonderful invocation which may have flown over the heads of some of us less educated members. KAREN PUTNAM led us in a stirring rendition of “You’re a Grand Ole Flag” accompanied by GARY HIRSCH on the piano.

New member ALICE MILTON introduced our visiting Rotarians and Guests. Since ALICE has now completed her month of introductions, this mystery editor looks forward to which new member is up for June!

Happy Birthday to: CHARLIE MEAKER, who proudly announced the birth of his first great granddaughter Georgianna; JAN GREEN, who reminisced about his old fried JOE NEVIN before concluding with a joke about erectile dysfunction; JO DECHATELET, who asked for thoughts and prayers as her son begins a new cancer treatment; IRENE DECKER, who thanked GARY SCHEER for sponsoring her into the club, ‘even after getting to know her’; and BILL MOORE, who announced that he will be leaving the club to head back to Virginia but spoke about how much he’s enjoyed his time here especially chairing the Community Grants committee and selling car show tickets.

Congratulations to the raffle winners: PAT ZUMBUSCH, who won under suspicious circumstances, PAT LENNON, CHARLOTTE HARRIS, Wendy Green (JAN’s wife) and JIM RONSTADT.

BRUCE TUNZE introduced new member DAVE EAGLETON. Welcome aboard DAVE!

DAVE GALLAHER and CHARLOTTE HARRIS introduced our most recent Paul Harris recipients. Congratulations to JAY ZUCKER, RICHARD and Clay MUNDINGER, and MIKE ORCUTT’s daughter Caitlin.

FONDA INSLEY used her Happy Jackson to announce her new position at Telemundo.

MARK IRVIN introduced our speaker, the founder and executive director of Earn to Learn, Kate Hoffman. Earn to Learn is on pace this year to help over 2,000 low to moderate income students go to college without the burden of student loans.

President CLIFF adjourned the meeting right on time.

New Family Member Spotlight ~ Tamah Donaldson
Tamah Donaldson, a Paul Harris Fellow, graduated from Salpointe Catholic High School and went on to study at NAU, in hopes of pursuing a career in Occupational Therapy.  She ended up starting a family instead and was blessed with her three children; Hailey, Hunter & Hayden.  Both Hailey and Hayden were diagnosed with medical conditions when they were around 10 months of age that required monthly appointments with specialists, countless tests and weekly therapy.

She was able to go back to work full time in 2004 for Davis Selected Advisors, L.P. where she obtained both FINRA Series 6 and 63 Licenses and worked for 5 years as a Broker/Dealer Liaison.  In 2009, she pursued a career in marketing and landed a job at Madden Media, where she has remained and recently been promoted to Director of Business Development.

Hailey 20 years, is pursuing a degree in Social Work and is on the fast track to ASU, Hunter 19 years, is pursuing a degree in either Electrical Engineering or Computer Sciences and is on the fast track to the UOFA, and Hayden 17 years, is a Junior at Marana HS, with an interest in Civil Engineering.  All three children are Paul Harris Fellows and have been volunteering as a part of Rotary from the time they were born, thanks to their grandfather Jim Murphy.

Tamah married Tony Donaldson in 2014, also Paul Harris Fellow, Paramedic and Captain for Avra Valley Fire District; currently in charge of their Community Services Division.  He served on their union executive board as Secretary/Treasurer for approximately six years and still remains quite active in charity work.   Please say hello to Tamah and welcome her to the club!
New Family Member Spotlight ~ Michele Murphy
Michele Murphy is proud to be a native Tucsonan, Salpointe Lancer and Arizona Wildcat. She has spent time living in San Francisco Bay Area, Washington, D.C., and Alexandria, Egypt, but family, community and the Catalinas keep bringing her back to the Old Pueblo. Michele currently serves as a development officer for the UA College of Humanities where she enjoys advocating for students, faculty and programs. Prior to joining the COH team 2 ½ years ago Michele spent 4 years as Executive Director for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Southern Arizona and 17 years as a high school humanities and social studies teacher, student activities director, and girl’s golf coach; all but one of those years at Salpointe.

In addition to Rotary Michele is a member of Association of Fundraising Professionals and is a member of the Board of Directors for the Arizona State 4-H Youth Foundation. She loves to read, travel, hike, practice yoga and spend time with family, especially her niece, Hailey, and nephews Hunter and Hayden. However, most of Michele’s time these days is spent trying to train her 17 month old chocolate Australian Labradoodle, Malley! One day she hopes he will serve others as a therapy dog, but for now he is definitely not ready for primetime!  Please say hello to Michele and welcome her to the club!
Save The Date ~ COA ~ 7/7/18
Our Change of Administration Event is scheduled for Saturday, July 7th at La Mariposa, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.  So mark your calendars to join President Cliff as he passes the gavel on to President Elect, Chuck Sawyer for the 2018-19 Rotary year.
