Mix and Mingle
April 12th we will be doing something different than in the past. We are doing our first MIX & MINGLE. During the Club Assemblies as well as the survey, members stated that one of the greatest values was to be able to network with other members. They also stated that given how structured our meetings run, that it was hard to really get to know other members better given the time constraints.

We listened and now it is time to deliver. We have no scheduled speaker but there will be some structure to our meeting. This will be a fun opportunity to get to know some more of our members as well as some things you “might not know”. I hope you plan to attend and be prepared to have some fun.

YIR,
Bruce Jacobs
Mystery Editor ~ 4/5/23
The 4/5 Rotary Club of Tucson meeting was called to order at 12:00—folks were directed to the buffet which featured lamb lollipops and asparagus in addition to other food—the shrimp cocktail was a very nice touch—well done TCC.

Watching the video of the meeting was interesting as there was quite a bit of activity in front of the camera.  PRESIDENT BRUÇE JACOBS brought us to attention at 12:15.  JEN HOFFMAN led us in the pledge and song.  I will say without KHRIS DODGE playing piano—the key of the group is always a bit funky—maybe we need a pitch pipe?

JOE DANISZEWSKI led us in the inspirational moment with a series of quotes that were well reasoned.

Acting Sargent At Arms, DAN KALM, tripped handily up the stairs and announced all the guests---which was a nice list!!  Good job bringing guests all!!

KURTIS DAWSON introduced our speaker, Dr. Allan Anderson, Director of the Banner Alzheimer’s Institute. Tucson

Dr. Anderson gave a great presentation about Alzheimer and Dementia studies ongoing and how to avoid either issue.  The takeaways from this presentation to me were—if you’re not exercising 3-5 days a week for 30 minutes or more—you should be.  Olive oil is your friend—use it and abuse it in your cooking.  Have fish twice a week.  Find the green leafy stuff more often than not.  Hypertension and high sugar levels are strong predictors of future mental issues if not addressed.  Sleep apnea must be addressed as well.  The more activity that you pursue physically and mentally the less likely you are to have issues.  Stay away from sugar—sugar is not good.  Eat red meat sparingly and all bad items in moderation.  It was a very good presentation.

SCOTT VAUGHAN did a Paul Harris Presentation for ROBIN STODDARD and GARY SCHEER.  Congrats to both!!

The raffle was held and the pot is over $230.00 next week.

Miles of Memories
Miles of Memories

I shared with those in attendance on the 13th that this next year I want us to share “Miles of Memories” together. I referenced the memories we have created together over the years and the impact we have had in so many others lives as well as our own.

The children and the parents receiving the grass ball field in San Carlos transformed from a dirt lot. The recipients and their families that obtained their mobility by receiving a wheelchair in Nogales. The memories of our member that participated along with the memories of working together on various local workday projects. Our hiking, golf, home hospitality fellowships and the list goes on.

I ask for you to help me on “our journey” over this next year by sponsoring me in the “Miles of Memories.” My goal is to walk a minimum of 35 miles a week, 1,825 for the year and honestly want to surpass 2000+. I would like for you to consider donating by the mile and we will share the outcome at the first meeting of each month on my progress.

Donations can go to the Foundation toward a Paul Harris, the President’s Discretionary Fund, or others of your choosing. I want us to have fun on our journey over this next year and to INSPIRE each other and our benefactors through the world of Rotary.

Thank you for your support in making our 102nd year one where we create memories together.
