Khris Dodge is a versatile musician, educator, and Tucson arts advocate for more than 30 years. He currently serves as the Executive Director of the Tucson Jazz Festival, the Conductor and Musical Director of the Tucson Pops Orchestra, and also runs Khris Dodge Entertainment (KDE), a full-scale concert production company.
Educated at the University of Arizona, where he earned both his Bachelor’s and Masters Degrees in Percussion Performance, Khris used the skills learned under Gary Cook – as well as jazz piano instruction from Jeff Haskell – to craft a versatile music career. Khris has played everything from orchestral percussion with Tucson Symphony and Arizona Opera (the latter of which he played with for 20 years) to keyboard for Broadway National Tours including Wicked, The Book of Mormon, Jersey Boys, and more. Additionally, he has played featured performances for the Sedona Film Festival, Ballet Tucson, Musical Instrument Museum, Austin Cabaret Theatre, and New York’s Metropolitan Room, to name a few.
Join Khris Dodge in this enlightening conversation on how music touches/infuses our lives, whether you know it or not. Creatively infusing live music examples, Khris will discuss the direct economic impact that the non-profit arts organizations in Pima County have on our region and how that positively affects our entire community. And in an engaging-non threatening way, Khris may even teach you some music in the process.
Pima Community College's Aviation Center was the site of a tour for approximately 30 Rotarians and their guests on Valentines Day. Program Director, Jason Bowersock, and Aviation Department Head, Charlie Cook, "loved" providing a comprehensive overview of the state-of-the-art facility and the training that takes place during the certificate and degree programs, which are endorsed by the FAA. 220 students are served, about 40 of whom attend in the evenings from JTED High Schools. The facility underwent an expansion recently which was largely funded by a one-time infusion of $15m from the State of Arizona. The ribbon cutting took place in October 2022 and doubled both the indoor and outdoor space. PCC's Aviation Center is one of the top five such facilities in the country, training the technicians who keep our planes flying safely around the globe. Graduates are in high demand and have the opportunity to earn $60k+ in entry level positions (the entire cost to an Aviation student is approximately $14,000). Special thanks to Rotarians Vickie Jacobs (for coordinating the tour) and Diana Cannon (for organizing the food trucks).
For our February gathering, we are meeting at the Tucson Racquet & Fitness Club Restaurant (4001 N Country Club Rd) on Monday, February 26 from 5:30-7:30pm.
The cost to participate is $36 per person (guests of Rotarians are welcome) and includes 5 tastings (2 whites & 3 reds) and light food presented by the knowledgeable wine representative who works with the restaurant. Attendees will pay The Racquet Club directly upon arrival.
Hello “Adopt a Road” volunteers! Now that I have completed my car show responsibilities 😉, I can move forward on launching the Adopt a Road program. Last week Lee, Jonathan, and Bruce met with a TCB contact to review our selected section of N Oracle Road (W River Road to W Wetmore Road).
The first cleanup will begin on Saturday, MARCH 9, 2024. Let’s meet in front of Fiesta Lanes Bowling (on River just west of Oracle) 501 W River Rd., at 7:15 am for a briefing and to hand out the equipment. The March date should give everyone time to plan and attend.
After 6 months of consistent clean-ups, we will receive a sign at the adopted site with our name The Rotary Club of Tucson. We can meet this requirement by cleaning up every other month or so. After each cleanup, we will submit a volunteer report.
For safety reasons, we are limited to 25 volunteers and NO ONE UNDER 18.
Tools and Supplies
Tucson Clean and Beautiful provides the necessary equipment to conduct the clean up e.g., safety vests, gloves, grabbers, trash bags, etc. I will pick supplies up this week.
You may want to bring your gloves and please bring your own water!

SAFETY GUIDELINE FOR VOLUNTEERS
● Wear toe covering shoes (no sandals)
● Long pants and long sleeves
● Gloves are recommended
● Bring sun hat and sunscreen
● Drink plenty of water
● Cell phone or headset use during clean ups is not allowed
● Do not pick up any of the following: medical waste, condoms, chemicals,
dead animals, hypodermic needles. If you encounter any of these
objects, please let your leader know (Leader may dispose this item safely
if you have already been briefed of how to dispose of them)
● Sharp objects such as broken glass may be collected with a broom/pan
or shovel by an adult
● Work in a group during daylight hours (7 a.m. to 5 p.m.)
SAN XAVIER MISSION: On the 2nd Wednesday, March 13th we plan to tour the San Xavier Mission. You will need to sign up at www.tucsonrotary.org under Upcoming Events no later than Wednesday March 6th. The tour takes approximately 1 hour and will start at 11:00. For those that would like to carpool there will be two locations. One at the Double Tree on Alvernon (South side near the ballrooms) and the other at the Tucson Mall just south of the Sears store. If you plan to carpool, please arrive by 10:00 with the cars leaving at 10:15. Please let me know if you will carpool and which location so no one is left behind. For those that have time for lunch after the tour we are suggesting BJ’s or Olive Garden (Tucson Mall) and Locale or Portillo’s (near the Double Tree) but those going to lunch can decide on other locations if they would like.
The cost is a minimum donation of $5 at the mission. Please sign up early if you can. They need one docent for every 15-20 people so early sign-ups are appreciated.
