"This is an excellent opportunity to introduce potential new members to the Club!"
Mystery Editor ~ 6/9/21
Rotary enthusiasm seems to be at an all-time high, certainly when The Rotary Club of Tucson meets at the beautiful Hacienda Del Sol Resort and is now anticipating our move to the Tucson Convention Center.  PRESIDENT JEN HOFFMAN is a one- woman greeting line and what a great way to be greeted.

Family member and husband of member LYNN, DAN DEVOU, Metro Medical Billing, led us in an energetic Pledge of Allegiance.  KHRIS DODGE accompanied on the keyboard our singing of “America the Beautiful.”  KHRIS seems to bring out the best in our voices.

There is a healing power in a loving child, as shown in the inspirational video.  When his mom was diagnosed with terminal cancer, Dustin Vitale became determined to take her and the entire family to Egypt by selling cheesesteak sandwiches out of his home. The $18,000 earned in only 6 weeks enabled mom Gloria and family to make her desired trip.  A loving son makes a difference!

PRESIDENT JEN introduced several guests as well as our virtual attendees.

Thanks, JEFF RONSTADT, for meeting the challenge of virtual and hybrid weekly Rotary programs during this past year.  Rotarians learned a great deal, we got to know our community much better and we certainly had occasion to laugh and applaud.  JEFF introduced a most interesting and informative program today with David Turpie, Vice President of Education, Exhibits & Publications with the Arizona Historical Society.  David emphasized the importance of the Arizona Historical Society which dates to 1864.  From Tucson, the Society branched out to Arizona History Museums in Flagstaff, Tempe and Yuma.  We feel fortunate in having David and his staff with us in Tucson at the Arizona History Museum, 949 E. 2nd St.  Our “hybrid” meeting also featured Shannon Fleischman, the Arizona Museums’ Curator, who virtually detailed “Ready to Launch: Arizona’s Place in Space.”  This exhibition is a must see for all Rotarians at our Tucson History Museum, now presenting through November 30th.  The Arizona Historical Society and Arizona History Museums have impressive web sites.  Additional support for the Society comes from memberships, contributions and programs.

Happy Birthday to GARY OLSEN, this past year’s excellent sergeant-at-arms, and new member, MITCH PISIK, Pisik Consulting Group.  Thank you, MITCH, for your humorous wisdom on the aging process.

Announcements from PRESIDENT JEN and BRUCE JACOBS: Donations of $392 were made last week to the scholarship fund.   UA football coach, Jedd Fisch, presents on 6/23.  Replacement Mixer at Sands Club Tuesday evening, 6/15.   Change of Administration event will be Saturday evening, 6/26, at Westward Look Resort (rooftop).

PP JON WANG gave our Rotary history lesson on past member, Douglas Holsclaw, 1898-1995:  attorney, musician, state senator and state representative, composer of the official UA fight song and major contributor to the cultural life in Tucson.  Surviving tuberculosis can have its rewards.

PP HUGH THOMPSON, co-chair of the Member Support Committee with FRANK DAHL, made us aware of the re-energized committee and its need for several female Rotarians. PP HUGH also promoted the TCCS business cards and card holders which are an added aid in selling TCCS tickets.
