President's Quarterly Letter
Welcome to 2023. When I realized it was time to do my 2nd quarter update, I found it hard to believe that half of my year is already past. What an amazing time it has been and thank you for the memories we have shared during 2022.

It’s hard to start the 2nd quarter off without two words. CAR SHOW! What an amazing show it was and congratulations to Bobby Larson for leading the charge. I started my year off and said, “it takes a village” and we could not do what we do without ALL of you and the efforts you put into making the Tucson Classics Car Show the amazing community event it has grown to. I know we will all be excited to hear the results on January 25th and look on with pride as Bobby presents the check to JTED.

We had some amazing programs along the way with Lee Lambert from Pima Community College, Judy Rich from TMC and Marcia Rieke’s presentation on the James Webb telescope to name just a few.

We also were able to get back to supporting international projects starting with the ARSOBO project in Nogales Sonora funding $5000 from the Foundation and with Pat Patton helping to raise additional funds contributing over $15,000 supporting those in need. We are funding a water project in Honduras working in conjunction with the Oro Valley Club. Through the extreme generosity of our members between the Club board, the Foundation and all of you we contributed $22,000 to Ukraine with matching funds from Rotary International taking that to $44,000 in humanitarian aid that is so desperately needed.

We managed to have some fun along the way with our golf, hiking and whiskey fellowships as well as a great mixer at Proof in November. In early December we rang the bells for the Salvation Army and capped off the quarter with a festive holiday mixer.

As I reflect over the holidays it gives me a great appreciation for the opportunity to serve as the Club’s President. We serve our community in a variety of ways, we learn and share through our programs, we find ways to have fun along the way, and we build amazing friendships within our Club.

SAVE THE DATE. Please plan to attend our CLUB ASSEMBLY on February 1st (@ WESTWARD LOOK). It has been several years since our last Club Assembly. We need YOUR feedback as we chart the future of your Club.

I hope everyone had great times with family and friends over the holidays. I look forward to our continued journey in 2023.

YIR,
Bruce Jacobs
President 2022-23
World of Play ~ Reid Park Zoo
Gail Brown, Chief Development Officer Reid Park Zoo, has shared a graphic from their architect, Ace Torre, of the upcoming World of Play. It gives a good representation of what it will look like when completed. At this point in the project the area has been cleared and is a big empty lot. The construction crew has been working underground with plumbing, electric, etc. and the next step will be to start building the larger components of the play area such as the ice cave, ramada and redwood tree. This will start in January. It is going to be amazing when it is completed.  Thanks again to the Rotary Club of Tucson  for supporting this project!

Miles of Memories
Miles of Memories

I shared with those in attendance on the 13th that this next year I want us to share “Miles of Memories” together. I referenced the memories we have created together over the years and the impact we have had in so many others lives as well as our own.

The children and the parents receiving the grass ball field in San Carlos transformed from a dirt lot. The recipients and their families that obtained their mobility by receiving a wheelchair in Nogales. The memories of our member that participated along with the memories of working together on various local workday projects. Our hiking, golf, home hospitality fellowships and the list goes on.

I ask for you to help me on “our journey” over this next year by sponsoring me in the “Miles of Memories.” My goal is to walk a minimum of 35 miles a week, 1,825 for the year and honestly want to surpass 2000+. I would like for you to consider donating by the mile and we will share the outcome at the first meeting of each month on my progress.

Donations can go to the Foundation toward a Paul Harris, the President’s Discretionary Fund, or others of your choosing. I want us to have fun on our journey over this next year and to INSPIRE each other and our benefactors through the world of Rotary.

Thank you for your support in making our 102nd year one where we create memories together.
