Stories
Tucson Underground: Connecting Tucson's Past & Present
Tucson is located on the ancestral lands of the O’odham. O’odham ancestors, whom they refer to as Huhugam, were farming ancient maize along the Santa Cruz River at least 4,000 years ago. Over the last 20 years archaeological studies prior to freeway construction and other urban development have revealed early irrigation canals, agricultural fields, and the villages where people lived. Tucson’s City Hall and Museum of Art are located just inside the walls of Tucson’s former Spanish Presidio. And a thousand-year-old Hohokam ballcourt village was likely an even older layer below downtown Tucson. One of the factors that helped Tucson to become a UNESCO City of Gastronomy was the community’s deep agricultural history.

Mystery Editor ~ 11/3/21
This was the first meeting since the Car Show and President MARK IRVIN thanked everyone for their hard work on the show and reminded all that we are going back to our normal meeting schedule, starting at 12 noon and ending at 1:20 pm.

KURTIS DAWSON led the Pledge of Allegiance and Song with Musical accompaniment by KHRIS DODGE on the Keyboard.

The Inspiration for this week was a Video from KGUN TV showing the Clip they aired about the Tucson Classics Car Show, which was very well received by the membership.

Past President JEN HOFFMAN requested all active members to vote for the 2022 – 2024 Board of Directors.  The list of Candidates for the three available positions are Cindy Barbee, Lynn Devou, Dan Kalm, Alan Rogers, Wes Wiggins and Jeanne Zetah.  Thank you to all these wonderful candidates.
.
Sargent At Arms KHRIS DODGE welcomed all of the guests at the meeting and all watching virtually.   An Honorary Member in attendance was KANDIE VACTOR.

President MARK introduced the Program which was an entertainment event featuring Crystal Stark. A biographical video of Crystal Stark was shown. She then performed six songs accompanied by KHRIS DODGE on the Keyboard and DAN DEVOU on the Guitar. The Show, ‘To Ella With Love, The Music of Ella Fitzgerald’ was a tribute to one of the great Jazz singers of her time and was very well received.

President MARK then had Crystal Sign the Children’s book, ‘Singing in the Rain’ which will be added to the Make Way for Books Library.

President MARK then acknowledged a Birthday Celebration for WOCKY REDSAR WIERZBINSKI.  WOCKY is happy to be a part of this club and has made many great friends.  Happy Birthday WOCKY!

BOB SHAFF gave the History Moment featuring Past President ROGER HARWELL 2005-06.  The moment recalled how ROGER was at a RI conference and supposedly found a phone that was able to call Paul Harris.  We then viewed a memorable moment video which told of several things ROGER had done as Past President which had become club traditions to this day.  And to continue, President MARK received a call from Paul Harris who heard PP ROGER HARWELL was going to be recognized and realized ROGER never received his Past President’s badge.  President MARK presented ROGER with his long, long awaited PP badge.

Sargent At Arms KHRIS DODGE did the weekly Raffle and BOB LOGAN won the Kitty but the King of Clubs was not pulled, therefore the Pot will continue to grow.

President MARK showed a slide of this week’s Fishing Photo supporting Irv’s Fly Fishing Fund.  ANN LANCERO’s niece caught a nice fish and was featured up on the screen.  MARK reminded everyone they too could get a fish photo on IRV’s Fly Fishing Wall.  Thank you, ANN for your generous donation to the Fund.

KURTIS DAWSON announced the Club will be ringing the bells again this year for Salvation Army and will keep the club updated on the date which will be a Saturday in early December.

ANN LANCERO has car show T-shirts available if anyone is interested in purchasing a shirt.

Past President CLIFF BOWMAN then announced the results of the voting for the Board of Directors.  The newest Board Directors announced were ALAN ROGERS, WES WIGGINS and JEANNE ZETAH, who will serve a two-year term on the Board for years 2022 thru 2024. Congratulations to you three and thank you for your service to the club.

President MARK closed the meeting with a Toast (as we found out today in the History Moment was one of Past President Roger Harwell’s Traditions).  The meeting was adjourned on time.
