The Holiday Mixer held Thursday evening at The Playground was a huge success.  Members and their guests enjoyed being on the rooftop, along with the lights and sounds of downtown Tucson.  A great time was had by all.  Here are some photos from this festive celebration:

District 5500 At a Glance
DISTRICT 5500 AT A GLANCE

DECEMBER EDITION #3 – Week of December 17, 2018

Our district has a net membership gain of 1% so far this Rotary year. We all have neighbors or family members or colleagues who’d be interested in Rotary, if they knew more about us. We DREAM BIG, we HAVE FUN, and we GET STUFF DONE.  We can start the new year by inviting guests to come and experience the power – and the fun – of Rotary.

Does the advertised cost of our 2019 District Conference Cruise include everything: meals, cabin, and all programs and speakers? Yes! The one price on our website is all-inclusive – and quite reasonable. Please encourage fellow Rotarians to sign up soon by making a small deposit. One quick phone call to Cruise Connection, 800-248-7447, is all that’s needed.

Our Rotary/Outward Bound Day of Peace Planning Team is meeting soon, planning a memorable day of peace building in Southern Arizona. The date is Saturday, April 6, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. If you are passionate about overcoming the divisions and hostilities in our world, save the date. And if you’d like to be part of the planning team, let District Governor Kirk Reed know, wkirkreed@gmail.com.

One of Rotary’s best-kept secrets is RLI, the Rotary Leadership Institute. In just one day new Rotarians and long-time Rotarians can gain several years worth of knowledge and leadership preparation. Clubs that participate in RLI almost always thrive! Please encourage fellow club members to be part of our next RLI event on Saturday, January 26. Everything you need to know is at www.rotaryd5500.org
Nova Arizona Bowl ~ Charity Give Back Program
The 2018 Car Show is almost complete, but we have ONE last thing to do before we announce the final total.

In lieu of a direct payment for their sponsorship, the Arizona Bowl taking place on 12/29/18, has agreed to give the Car Show the revenue generated from the ticket sales that are purchased from our Club, our Family and Friends.  The tickets are in Rows 38 to 42 in Sections 23 and 24.  The tickets in Section 23 are $50.00 and the tickets in Section 24 are $25.00.  Please go to novaarizonabowl.com/game-2018/tickets when ordering and you must enter the Code for the Car Show which is RCOT18. If you have any questions please contact Robert O’Brien at 520-904-9177.

Service Project ~ Make Way For Books - 1/12/19
Service Project at Make Way For Books January 12, 2019 by Peter Akmajian and Dave Gallaher

Come join our first service project of 2019 at Make Way For Books on January 12th, 8:00AM at 700 N Stone.  The service project will last for four hours or until the work is done!!  We will be painting bookshelves and other light duty tasks as needed.  We will have some small amount of landscaping/trimming work for those that don’t mind working outside.  For more information or questions please email dave@tucsonindustrialrealty.com  or call 907-4983.  Please use our website under Upcoming Events to sign up.  We would hope to have around ten (10) volunteers.
A District Conference Not To Be Missed!
Enjoy fun in the sun, fellowship, great speakers and breakout sessions at the 2019 Destination District Conference while cruising down to Ensenada, Mexico on the ship “Inspiration.” We sail from beautiful Long Beach, CA to Ensenada, B.C., Mexico, departing Friday, October 25th at 6:30 pm and returning Monday at 7:00 am  October 28th, 2019. (It’s a week after the car show!).  Experience the internationality of Rotary while working side by side with fellow Rotarians and Rotaractors on a project in District 4100 while docked in Ensenada. Wine-tasting tours, shopping and exchanging new ideas with local Rotarians can also be experienced.
Ocean breezes, great food (24 hours a day), evening strolls on the deck with a gorgeous Baja moon overhead, renewing old friendships and making new acquaintances, what could be better? The deposit is $50.00 -$100 depending on size of cabin. Ocean view cabins are $454-$484 and inside cabins are $404-$409. This reasonable price for the entire trip is all-inclusive. (alcoholic beverages not included). Sorry folks! I tried.

See you on board the Inspiration! Reserve your stateroom today by emailing fellow Rotarian Mike Sloan: mike@cruiseconnections.com or call him at 800-248-7447 or 336-659-9772. He’s very helpful and planned the District Conference Cruise for us in 2008 which Rotarians still talk about. You can also contact me for additional information: ellie@thetempconnection.com
