Biography: Colonel Scott C. Mills
Col. Scott Mills is the Commander of the 355th Wing, Davis-Monthan AirForce Base, Arizona. He is responsible for one of the largest installations and flying operations in the United States Air Force, with 34 mission partners, more than 46,000 personnel, 152 aircraft, and 51 billion dollars in assets. He is responsible for organizing, training, and equipping a wing comprised of 25squadrons. The wing provides A-10 Thunderbolt II aircraft for close air support and forward air control, combat support, and medical forces for combatant commander requirements worldwide.
The 355th Wing also provides combat search and rescue personnel recovery capabilities through the employment of HC-130J Combat King IIs, HH-60G Pave Hawks, and Guardian Angel weapon systems. The wing has units at Davis-Monthan AFB, Ariz. and Nellis AFB, Nev. The 355th Wing is also responsible for training A-10C pilots for the entire Total Force and is the Air Combat Command executive agent for Intermediate Range Nuclear Forces and Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty compliance.
Col. Mills previously served as Special Advisor to the Under Secretary of the Air Force for International Affairs on the F-35 programs. He previously commanded the 66th Weapons School, where he produced both A-10 and Joint Terminal Attack Controller Weapons Officers. He has also served as a Political Military Strategist on the Joint Staff J-5, Deputy Directorate for Joint Strategic Plans, at the Pentagon, and graduated as a distinguished graduate from both the School of Advanced Air and Space Studies and Air Command Staff College.
Col. Mills received his commission from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1999.He is a command pilot with more than 2,400 flying hours, including over 300combat hours. His operational assignments include service in the 354thFighter Squadron, Davis-Monthan AFB, Ariz; 25th Fighter Squadron, Osan Air Base, Republic of Korea; the 74th Fighter Squadron, Pope AFB, NC; and a tour as an instructor at the U.S. Air Force Weapons School. He has flown combat missions in Operations ENDURING FREEDOM and IRAQI FREEDOM, where he also served as a Battalion Air Liaison Officer.

Double Your Polio Plus Donation Towards Your Next Paul Harris Fellow
A member of our club is challenging members to donate to Polio Plus and support our Ride to End Polio riders by offering matching recognition points, one for one, for donations of a minimum of $100 and a maximum of $500. This means a donation of $100 will become $200, $200 will become $400, etc. towards your next Paul Harris Fellow. This is a win-win for everyone: more children will be vaccinated for polio, you will be closer to your next Paul Harris Fellow, and our Ride to End Polio riders will be encouraged to ride and ride.
This comes at an important time for the continued goal of elimination of the wild polio virus as the numbers demonstrate an increase in the two endemic countries:

Back by popular demand are Rotary International’s General Secretary and CEO John Hewko and lovely wife Marga. John will be providing his annual brief update on Rotary’s progress toward eliminating polio. If you haven’t had the opportunity to meet John, this is the perfect opportunity.

Rotarians will provide maintenance on a section of the Arizona Trail relatively near to Tucson, to make sure that it is in good condition. The work is across gentle terrain and on an expertly built trail. Meet time and location TBD. Great views, a hike, and a work project all in one!

This is the official advisement of the final scheduled hike for the calendar year 2024 and we have a great one lined up in the Tucson Montains! Please join me on Saturday, 12/7/24 for a morning on the Brown Mountain Loop, departing from the Brown Mountain Picnic Area next door to the Desert Museum. This is a great little loop hike that takes you on the ridge overlooking the Sonoran Desert Museum, Gilbert Ray campground and offers great views of the backside of the Tucson Mountains. This is a moderate hike covering 4.2 miles and 688 vertical feet with hike times projected at 3 hours from beginning to end.
We will meet at the Brown Mountain Picinic area beginning at 7:45AM for an 8AM departure. This access allows for sufficient parking so we will just meet there and no carpool necessary. I will check in as we get closer with updates on anticipated conditions and any time changes that might occur.
One of the most popular hiking trails at Tucson Mountain Park takes you across Brown Mountain, offering stretches of cactus-lined paths. The trail covers a variety of terrain and elevation, ensuring that you will be thoroughly entertained throughout your hike. This is a fantastic trail to witness the saguaros in bloom. Additionally, the trail connects with the highly-rated Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum.

We will be ringing the bell in two hour shifts from 9 AM to 5Pm—we have 8 doors and the goal is 8k per kettle. This will provide 5,500 meals to those in need over the holidays in our community.
