In 2004, the Rotary Club of Tucson invested in Reading Seed as a solution-based program. Today, Reading Seed is impacting nearly 1,000 emerging readers annually in local Title I schools. Research shows Reading Seed students’ progress at a 30% greater rate than their peers, improving their future prospects. To better serve students’ diverse backgrounds, Literacy Connects requests high-quality books for volunteers to share with students. Ultimately, your investment will be used to change the life trajectory of children in need.
For over 25 years, JobPath has supported the success of low-income students pursuing associate degrees and certificates leading to in-demand, high-wage careers in the healthcare, industrial trades, and IT industries. With case management services and financial assistance that helps cover both school and non-school expenses, JobPath students succeed! On average, 90% of JobPath participants complete their programs, and 85% get a job in their field within six months of graduation, earning an average of over $50,000/year plus benefits and the paid time off so essential to raising a healthy happy family!
“The Amphi ECHO (Educational Community Home Outreach) Program at Nash and Keeling Elementary Schools provides a community school-based approach to achieve student and community transformation by tackling academic and non-academic barriers through before and after school programs, new learning opportunities for students and their families, and wrap-around services focused on health and wellness support. Nash and Keeling are in one of the most in-need zip codes in Arizona (85705), resulting in low attendance and student success. Exciting after school programs entice students to attend classes, and nearly 900 children, plus caregivers, benefit from the program. Nash and Keeling will continue to see increased attendance, test scores, and overall well-being; and increased financial literacy, better job prospects, and greater community connection for caregivers.
The 22 year mission of Ben’s Bells is to teach individuals and communities about the positive impacts of intentional kindness and to inspire people to practice kindness as a way of life. The Rotary Kindness in Marana Project influences positive growth for Pima County children, specifically those in the Marana Unified School District. Our goal is to increase the practice of kindness, leading to improved school climate and learning outcomes with a multi-tiered approach at 9 schools in Marana, supporting 8,281 children. The project will make Marana Unified the first district in Pima County to have visual kindness reminders in every school. It directly cultivates kindness at the individual, classroom, school, neighborhood, and community level.
Our second "Events Around Town" was a huge success with five locations spread out around Tucson. Thank you to Dan Kalm, Glen Ewing & Chuck Sawyer, Dot Kret, Brittany Battle & Khris Dodge, and Gary Olsen for hosting. If you would like to host an event, please let President Kurtis know. Greetings Fellow Rotarians! We are just a little over a month away from the 18th Annual Tucson Classics Car Show and need your help. We are behind our goal for ticket sales, but there is time to get out there and sell tickets so we can EXCEED our beneficiaries expectations and do what we as Rotarians do best, put Service Above Self.
Let’s take a moment to remember the “Why” of the Car Show; 2.6 Million Dollars raised by this amazing RCOT event for the past 17 years given back to our community; helping with literacy, workforce development, creating amazing opportunities for students at JTED and many, many other worthy organizations. We are now putting our fundraising efforts towards the Pima Community College Foundation’s PIMA START program (Success through Advance Reskilling & Training), Wright Flight, and Sister Jose’s Women’s Center. We have committed to these organizations, and I don’t know about you but I would like for us to knock it out of the park.
You can’t sell your tickets if you don’t ask your friends, family, doctors, dentist, AC Tech, plumber or anyone you do business with regularly. $10 is an easy ask and it gets them a chance to win and a wonderful day out, checking out some FANTASTIC cars, eating some good food and enjoying a Tucson Tradition that The Rotary Club of Tucson started.
So get out there and put Service Above Self, and sell those tickets.
Personally, I hope you are one of the first 50 Rotarians who sells over 100 tickets and gets to go to my parents beautiful home where we will have some delicious barbecue and yummy desserts with adult beverages, trust me it is worth it to get out there and get your hustle on.

For the final trek of the inaugural "Summer Hiking Series", Martha and I were joined by fellow Rotarians Don Riegger, Chuck Sawyer and friend, Woulter Van Tiel. It was a beautiful morning on the always favorite Marshall Gulch-Lower Aspen Loop trail with temperatures in the upper 60's to low 70's for the time on the trail. With the traditional lunch stop at The Sawmill we closed this first annual "Summer Hiking Series" and just wait until next year!

Lee Olitzky and I are planning the next Rotary Cycling Fellowship to be on Saturday October 26 at 8 AM starting at St Phillips Plaza South side parking lot near the loop. We will start together but each rider can choose their own route and distance. Riders should wear a Rotary cycling jersey.
