President BOBBY LARSON started the meeting and welcomed MARK HART to the stage to lead the pledge and song. KHRIS DODGE was on keyboard for a rousing “God Bless America” played in the key of “Oh Beautiful for Spacious Skies.” It was a real improv moment by the Jazz maestro.
JOE DANISZEWSKI offered the inspiration. It was a prayer for Serenity. Then, SAA DRE WILLIAMS introduced all of our guests. DRE stayed on the stage and was the Cookie Sponsor for the week. This year, Cookie Sponsors will receive a great “The Rotary Club of Tucson” tumbler in addition to the custom Cookie Monster Pendant.
RICKY HUNLEY introduced our speaker, John Lai. Prior to the meeting, RICKY handed out free towels and car wash vouchers courtesy of Mister Car Wash. 
John Lai is the CEO of Mister Car Wash. Following is a summary of his presentation:
Strategic Growth: John outlined the company's journey from a single location to a national platform with over 550 stores across 21 states. He shared a vision to reach 2,000 locations, driven by a growing Total Addressable Market (TAM) and a focus on high-volume, automated efficiency.
Operational Pivot: The business has transitioned from a traditional full-service model (which is labor-intensive and has lower customer satisfaction due to detailing limitations) to an Express Exterior model. This model utilizes advanced chemistry and technology to deliver a "clean, dry, and shiny" car in about 3 minutes, significantly improving margins.
Subscription Model: A cornerstone of their success is the "all-you-can-wash" subscription program, which provides predictable, recurring revenue and has transformed the business economics.
Cultural Leadership: John emphasized that the "magic" in their service isn't accidental; it’s the result of treating employees with respect, offering comprehensive benefits, and fostering a positive work environment. He highlighted their high Employee Net Promoter Score (ENPS) as evidence of this success.
Public vs. Private: He discussed the strategic shift of taking Mister Car Wash public in 2021 and the subsequent decision to take it private again six weeks ago. He explained that the regulatory burdens (like Sarbanes-Oxley) associated with being a public company were often restrictive and not value-added for their specific growth stage.
“Culture eats strategy for lunch” said John Lai and he was given the book “Bo Goes to the Carwash” to sign for the Make Way For Books Library.
JON PLIMPTON was celebrating his birthday and gave a check in honor of his brother, CONRAD PLIMPTON who recently passed away. BRUCE JACOBS was celebrating his birthday and encouraged members to get involved with club fellowships and projects.
MATT NANCE introduced new member, JUSTIN MANASK. JUSTIN was an attorney in the film industry and has since retired and moved to Tucson. He is the business developer for Santa Rita Landscaping. He likes reading, hiking, camping and cycling.
DRE held the 50/50 raffle, and past President DOT KRET won the pot for the day but not the big prize. We had a quick happy Jackson to recognize JIM RONSTADT. JEFF RONSTADT asked KHRIS DODGE to play Happy Birthday on the keyboard, and we all sang to JIM.

GORDY SIEWERT talked about We Care Tucson: A recycling electronics purge event is scheduled for next week, aimed at refurbishing technology for underserved youth and reducing landfill waste. Bring your old technology next week to be recycled or destroyed.

Shoes for Students: Don Jorgensson introduced a new project supporting students, with the club committing a $2,500 donation to kick off the effort.
ALAN ROGERS and RICKY HUNLEY highlighted the importance of the upcoming annual car show, encouraging members to sell tickets and business owners to purchase tickets for employees to help meet the 30,000-ticket goal.
