The Change of Administration Party Saturday evening was a wonderful event with Rotarians and Guests witnessing now Past President Margaret passing the gavel to now President Kurtis Dawson. The evening was full of good food, much cheer and fellowship. A huge thank you to Chris Edwards and Tucson Appliance for sponsoring the event. Congratulations to Roger Harwell whose raffle ticket was chosen for Mr. Click's Pinetop Condo. High fives go out to those that won the Service Project prizes and congrats to Charlotte Harris who received first dibs on those prizes with the most service project points. Congratulations to Margaret for a stellar 2023-24 year (time to relax) and welcome Kurtis to the 2024-25 Presidency of our remarkable Club!
The next hike of our Summer Series on Mount Lemmon is coming up in two weeks. Due to our higher summer temperatures, early sunrises, the already ramped up monsoon season and numerous requests received, we will be getting off to earlier starts on the summer hikes. Meeting place will continue to be LeBuzz on Tanque Verde and Catalina Highway.
Saturday, July 13 - Meadow and Mount Lemmon Loop - 6:30AM meet time for 8:00 AM start
This hike is rated as Easy covering 2.1 miles and 341 vertical feet. Although short in distance the hike is long in spectacular views from the highest points on the mountain. This beautiful hike will also take us to one of the Fire Lookout Towers overlooking the Catalinas and Tucson.
I hope that we will have a great turnout like the first hike of the Summer Series and see you on the trails!
Take the Meadow Trail #5A to start your journey through rocky ridges and stands of aspen trees near the summit of Mount Lemmon. Begin by hugging the fenceline and staying to the right. Once you reach the summit and clearing, head left to get a view of the south, overlooking the Catalinas, Tucson, the Santa Ritas, and beyond. Afterward, get back on the trail and loop around to connect with the Mount Lemmon Trail #5. From there, go left back towards the parking area. As you continue, take the spur on the right to the Lookout Tower. Keep in mind that while there are markers at the trailhead and at junctions, there are no markings along the trail.
The Service Project Committee is making plans for next year’s projects. We will offer many of the same projects, but are open to a few new ones, as well.
If you would like to propose a new project, please email me no later than July 10th so the committee can consider whether to take it on as an official RCOT project. One caveat- if you propose a project, you must be willing to be the Team Captain which entails participating in the Service Project lunch on September 4th, recruiting volunteers via the newsletter/announcements at meetings, and organizing the details to ensure the project’s success.

How many volunteers will be needed
I am also looking for a volunteer to be the Team Captain of the Recycling Project. Anyone interested please contact me.
