Now our club had the distinct pleasure and high honor of our not President yet, P.E. CLIFF BOWMAN open our weekly meeting.
Our Inspiration by STEVE PICKERING was a flurry of “fishing” stories and quotes. The best one was “the best way to a fisherman’s heart is through his fly” – oh yeah – good work STEVE.
Pledge and Song “America The Beautiful” was performed by the one and only GARY HIRSCH and we were led by BRO CRAIG. Thanks BRO!
Guest Introduction was our “Appliance Man” CHRIS EDWARDS. CHRIS thanked all who helped out with the Champions Golf Tour event. The birthdays went to JOE PENNINGTON, DON ROLLINGS (our youngest ever Club President – he was in his early 20’s!). MERLE HENKEL and RICHARD WHITE, who went to Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, PA.
ART ALLIS, Foodie extraordinaire, introduced and presented a blue badge to JACK CAMPER, a re-tread from our club – Welcome back JACK!
There was one Paul Harris presentation to KANDY HIRSCH, a new Family Member of our Club. KANDY is the President of a Woman’s President Organization – Go Kandy! And, thanks to you and GARY.
SAA FONDA INSLEY drew the winners of the raffle: 1-800-Flowers – IRENE DECKER, Sullivans Eatery and Creamery – JERRY SULLIVAN, Archive Advantage from DOT KRET; they archive photos and documents. ROBERT O’BRIEN donated 2 tickets to the Roadhouse Cinema and CONRAD PLIMPTON gave in some more Makeup… Thank you all for your donations.

Finally our program was introduced by MARSHALL DENNINGTON. Our Stars were DAVE GALLAHER (former President) and MARK IRVIN. The talk and slide show was about their nine day fly fishing trip to New Zealand. The Southern Island and time with their Guide, Uncle Mary. 9’ rods, 15 foot leads, and 4 flies on each cast – Wow! One spot was fished by the “Lord of the Rings” movie set – that’s pretty awesome! This was a beautiful trip that really gave the club a view of what else is going on around the world of fun!
Our meeting was closed by PE CLIFF BOWMAN who exchanged our club banner with a Michigan Club. Great job CLIFF and the toast “a bad day fishing is better than a good day at work”!
Jack Camper is a former member of this club dating back to the 1980's. He spent 42 years in the Chamber of Commerce field having served 33 of them as Pres/CEO of the Tucson Metropolitan Chamber, a position he loved. He taught for the US Chamber of Commerce at it's Institute for Organization Management program for 20 years and even chaired the Board of Trustees for its Center for Leadership Development.
He remains a member of the Tucson Airport Authority, The DM 50, the Tucson SKAL Club, the BSD Winers and Diners and is a life member of The Arizona Chamber Executive's association.
He has been married to Ann for 57 years and has 3 sons, 4 grandchildren and one delightful great granddaughter.
Jack spent 3 years, 2 months, 2 days and 8 hours in the U.S. Army and likes to say he 'loved every minute of it'. He likes to shoot trap, pistols, his bow and remains somewhat frustrated with his golf game.
Our Home Hospitality week is closing in fast, the week of April 17th through the 23rd and so far we only have a handful of hosts. If you are interested in hosting a small or large group at your home, please let me know the date, time, location and the amount of guests you will host. Remember, the Club will provide each host $20 per member/guest that attend your event. So let's have some fun during this Home Hospitality Week!
Tucson Rotary's monthlySocial Mixer is scheduled for March 30th, 5:30 pm-7:30 pm and again will be held at the very popular Trident II, located in Plaza Palomino, 2900 N. Swan. Last month's mixer brought members and guests together for a very enjoyable evening out. Bring a family member, a potential new member, a friend and your business cards. This will be a great time to socialize, network, and enjoy the fellowship and fun of Rotary. No reservations or registrations necessary. (no host bar) (Separate from our March 29th Replacement Mixer)
Join the RCOT Golf Fellowship. We get together to golf generally on every other Friday afternoon. This past week we had 3 foursomes play at Randolph and had a great time.
Join the RCOT Hiking Fellowship. Hiking is a great way to get to know your fellow Rotarians better as we explore the beautiful trails in Southern Arizona…or on bigger hikes like the Grand Canyon.
Here are a couple pictures from our last two hikes to Maiden Pools starting at Ventana Canyon and from Romero Pools starting at Catalina State Park.
In terms of difficulty we go on a range of hikes; a few easy, mostly moderate with a few difficult. We have a couple of hikes coming up to take advantage of the great weather. The first hike is scheduled for this Saturday, April 1st. We will be hiking Picacho Peak which is rated Difficult. The next hike will be on Saturday April 8th to Hutch’s Pools at the top of Sabino Canyon and it is rated Moderate. If you are interested in joining us, or would like more details, contact Chuck Sawyer at 780-2828.
Our past member turned South Carolinan, Maggie Kosinski, is not a whiskey drinker but has joined this fellowship to learn more about this drink and for the mission of donating to "clean water around the globe". Since she is very friendly with Jaime Moore and she and Terry's passion for Rotary, Maggie knows that the mission of this fellowship will be carried out. Below is the fellowship that Maggie is talking about:
Do you like whiskey? Do you like making new friends in Rotary? Then consider joining the Whiskey D.R.A.M. Fellowship (or Whiskey Drinking Rotarians and Members). The Fellowship was started in 2015 and was officially sanctioned by Rotary International in August 2016. Our objective is to learn more about all the whiskies of the world including bourbon, scotch, rye, sour mash and moonshine. We will provide content regarding whiskey food pairings and recipes, whiskey cocktails, and other topics related to the enjoyment of whiskey. The goal is to enhance our appreciation of brown liquor and make new friends along the way. We accomplish that by sharing our knowledge and experiences and by learning from the many whiskey experts and knowledgeable Rotarians throughout the world. We encourage you to become actively involved in our Fellowship and share your ideas, opinions and whiskey experiences.
As with other Rotary Fellowships, we will also support the charitable arm of Rotary with monetary giving. The Whiskey D.R.A.M Fellowship has chosen clean water initiatives as our charity of choice. A portion of the net proceeds of our Fellowship will be given, on an annual basis, to a Rotary-sanctioned campaign focused on safe drinking water.

ARE YOU COMING TO ATLANTA?
The Fellowship was able to secure a booth at Rotary International's Annual Convention in Atlanta, Georgia, slated for June 10-14. We will be located in Booth 2635. We hope you visit us!
We are also planning to host an off-site event for the Fellowship during the convention and are hard at work on the details. We hope you will join us for a whiskey tasting party with food pairings. More information will follow in regard to this event.
