2020 Tucson Classics Car Show

The Tucson Classics Car Show is the premiere car show in Arizona.  Through thirteen years of the car show, the Rotary Club of Tucson has raised over $1.6M to support local charities focusing on literacy, job/skills development, and senior assistance.  This year's recipients are Make Way for Books and Pima JTED.   The car show is a fantastic community event held each year in October at the Gregory School, and the show attracts over 400 classic cars and 20,000 guests each year.  Due to COVID-19, the car show event will not take place this year.  However, the 2020 Tucson Classics Raffle for a 2007 corvette grand prize and five other outstanding prizes will take place as planned on October 17th.  In addition, the 2020 Car Show Online Auction, with over 200 items, will conclude on October 16th.  We are grateful to our Title Sponsor, WeBuyHouses.com, and look forward to a successful raffle and online auction!

Cliff Bowman is the Chair for the 2020 Tucson Classics Car Show.  He is a past president, 2016-17, and a twelve-year member of The Rotary Club of Tucson.  Cliff is the Lead A-10 Pilot Instructor for AviX, Inc at Davis-Monthan AFB.

President's Letter ~ Jennifer Hoffman
Wow, the past three months have flown by, haven’t they? I certainly have enjoyed seeing everyone who has been able to attend the meetings and hope that in the near future we will be getting back to some semblance of normalcy. While we haven’t been able to have our regular events, projects and camaraderie, I think we have done quite well.

Our Car Show Raffle drawing will be held at 3: 30pm on Saturday October 17th at the Gregory School. Cliff Bowman and the Car Show committee have arranged for a “drive in” celebration with our raffle drawing, music from DJ John, presentations from JTED and MWFB and special recognition to the sponsors who helped make everything happen.  We are looking forward to seeing all of you at the celebration and want to thank you for going the extra mile this year to sell those car show tickets.  Even though we had to cancel the Show, this has not stopped our Remarkable Club from working hard to support our local community.

Rotary Club of Tucson is now a District 5500 Peacebuilder Club and we will be installing our first Peace Pole at the Tucson Zoo, date forthcoming. If you are interested in learning more about our status as a Peacebuilding Club, please go to the District 5500 website https://www.rotaryd5500.org/ and go to the Rotary Peace tab.

We have had some wonderful history moments featuring Katie Dusenberry, John McCaleb and RCOT partnership with the Boy Scouts of America organized by Jon Wang and Bob Shaff. These programs have truly inspired me, and I can’t wait to learn more about the history of our club and our dynamic members. We really don’t need to look far for inspiration, do we?

And now we are headed full force towards the holiday season. This time of year typically speeds by even faster, but with COVID, who knows how things will go. All we can do is hope for the best. I encourage everyone to be the Rotarians I know you are during these times. Be kind, patient, smile at strangers, let that car go ahead of you, pay it forward when you can, because these are challenging times and we need to remind ourselves and others that there is good in the world.

I look forward to seeing you at the meetings in person or virtual.

Thanks for your service as a Rotarian.

In Rotary,
President Jen
Replacement/Social Mixer 9/30 ~ A Huge Success!
Our Replacement/Social Mixer held last Wednesday evening at Vero Amore was a success, with good weather, good food and drink, and great fellowship.  Our next social mixer will be held on 10/28, location to be determined.  Here are some pictures from the social event.

#runningforrotary
My fellow Rotarians,

I have laced up my running shoes and started #runningforrotary. I usually run 12-18 miles per week or 48-72 miles per month. You can find a form on our website www.tucsonrotary.org, under the “Member Area” tab, top right corner of the home page, or request one from Dorinna or Kari. You can sponsor me mile for mile for a month, a few months or the entire year. Your donations will go to the area of your choice for our Rotary Club Foundation or even Rotary International. How far do you think I will go #runningforrotary this year?  I would like to thank those members who have already signed up and pledged a donation.

Thank you for your support,

President Jen
