PRESIDENT BOBBY LARSON kicked off today’s meeting by ringing the bell and introducing the “best singing Bruin” he’s ever met, TIM MEDCOFF, who led us in the Pledge and crooned “God Bless America.”
We observed a moment of silence for the passing of RICKY HUNLEY’s mom, Scarlett. We also learned there will be a Celebration of Life at the Gaslight Theatre on September 26th for our longtime Car Show DJ, JOHN STROBECK, who passed away last month.
JEN HOFFMAN provided our Inspiration, reminding us that we are in a room full of generosity, where people have stopped asking, “What’s in it for me?” and started asking, “What can I give?”
DRE WILLIAMS introduced 11 guests joining us today, while our joint cookie monsters, JOSE GUERRA and MEME AGUILA, kept our blood sugar going.
We celebrated three birthdays: ROGER LAFAYE, ART ALLIS and LUIS HERNANDEZ, and none of them look a day over 25! Happy Birthday!
DRE returned to draw our raffle winner, and TOM STRASBURG let us know she had strong-armed him into buying 12 tickets when he only wanted five. Well, I think he owes Dre a high five because not only did he win today’s pot, he was crowned KING OF CLUBS and walked away with $2,814!!!
Next up was Family Fun Club, where BOBBY admitted he plays favorites and we saw ROGER HARWELL’s adorable grandson, Parson.
We were reminded that the office is closed Friday, 9/4, and Monday, 9/7. Those are DORINNA’s only vacation days we give her each year, so don’t bother her!
Car Show sales are up to $6,558, with DORVITA buying 200 tickets this past week!
MARCY EULER spoke briefly about Proposition 430, designed to support needed projects at Pima Community College. She reminded us to read our entire ballot in November because the propositions will be at the very end. PCC’s last bond request was more than 30 years ago and they do not receive funding from the state.
JOE DANISZEWSKI and BOBBY then kicked off our SERVICE PROJECTS MEETING by awarding Best Dressed Booth to Tucson We Care and drawing the 2025-2026 Service Project winners.
There are plenty of opportunities to get involved this year:
• Triangle Y • Youth on Their Own • Adopt a Road • Community Food Bank • Reading Coaches at Robinson Elementary • The Peace Pole Project • TRAK • Salvation Army Bell Ringers • Tucson Family Food Project • Arizona Trail Maintenance • Camp Lawton • Edge High School • RYLA Youth Services • Literacy Connects • El Tour RTEP • And, of course, the Tucson Classics Car Show!
MATT SINCLAIR won the $400 Fleming’s gift certificate for staying until the very end. Sometimes it pays to stick around!
Finally, JEN HOFFMAN forcefully closed the meeting with a toast to service and to each other!
