A huge thank you to the members for hosting this "Events Around Town".   Again no lunch meeting on October 9th.

Rotary President KURTIS DAWSON called the meeting to order at 12 noon from the Tucson Convention Center.  We enjoyed another great meal, featuring delicious chicken BBQ, burgers and all the fixings.  As always, the TCC banquet staff were attentive to the hungry Rotarians.  The opening of the meeting featured the Pledge of Allegiance to the American flag lead by BRIAN CRAWFORD and the rendition of “Star Spangled Banner”. A heartwarming Inspiration was given by JEFF RONSTADT.

 

President KURTIS kicked off the formal part of the meeting by introducing KHRIS DODGE who thanked our guests for coming to the meeting. A special program on the upcoming 18^th Annual Tucson Classics Car Show was given by Chairs JEN HOFFMAN and husband, fellow Rotarian, SEAN HOFFMAN. Both covered the importance of the car show as well as encouraging all to volunteer and sell those tickets.  MIKE ANDERSON was recognized for securing a corvette for the car show all these many years of car shows.  Thank you MIKE ANDERSON!

 

Today’s birthday featured KATIE DUSENBERRY who was the first female President of Tucson Rotary and celebrating 100 years. While not present at the meeting we all joined in wishing her a Happy Birthday. Other birthdays celebrated today were JIM MURPHY born on October 3 and JOHN DOERR born of October 11.

 

NINA TRASOFF was called upon to introduce our newest honorary member, ADELITA GRIJALVA.  ADELITA is with the Pima County Board of Supervisors.

 

BOBBY LARSON introduced new active member BILL TONG, a friend and banker.  Welcome to the Club!

 

DON ROLLINGS was called up to present Blue Badge to KIOTE ERICKSON.   Congratulations KIOTE!

 

CHUCK SAWYER presented CHUSCHI MWEWA with his Blue Badge.  Congratulations CHUSCHI!

 

Deserving his own paragraph, Sergeant at Arms KRIS DODGE jumped into action with the famous Rotary raffle with a big winner today. JIM WOOD walked away with the big pot for picking the right card. Jim later commented when the cash was delivered to his seat, “This is the biggest roll of cash I have ever seen”.

 

Following this excitement President KURTIS shared the Rotary Announcements with everyone and directed all to see the sheet on the table. Of course, we were reminded by seeing a platter full of cookies and the author of this recap couldn’t resist.

  

Our next lunch meeting is October 16 and all are reminded to view and sign up for an Event Around Town, for a hearty lunch with friends on our off week of Rotary. Sign up today under Upcoming Events on the website to enjoy this special opportunity to get to know your fellow Rotarian.  

 

Meeting was adjourned at 1:20 pm with a toast by JEFF RONSTADT sending us all back to work.

The Car Show Friday Night Dinner will take place at the Gregory School, 3231 N. Hello Cyclists,

 

Lee Olitzky and I are planning the next Rotary Cycling Fellowship to be on Saturday October 26 at 8 AM starting at St Phillips Plaza South side parking lot near the loop.  We will start together but each rider can choose their own route and distance.  Riders should wear a Rotary cycling jersey.  This ride is meant to be a training ride for the El Tour de Tucson and the Ride to End Polio.  Questions please contact:  Alan Rogers, 520-444-8941, buck@casadelmilagro.com

 

So many of our fellow Rotary members have enthusiastically approached/cornered/demanded Tom and I arrange for another evening of throwing axes - that we have accordingly arranged for an evening of throwing axes. (We guarantee that the event and location is professional and safe - and accordingly minimal casualties are anticipated).  The event will take place at St. Hubert's Hatchet House (check out their website), 908 W. Prince Road, October 28th from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.  Food will be pizza and cookies, soft drinks, beer.  Tom Lichliter's employer, Anchor Wave Digital Marketing Agency will be sponsoring the event.  Will there be prizes, yes!  To RSVP please email Tom at Tom@anchorwave.com by 4:00 p.m., 10/25/24.  We are limited to 50 people and the cost is $20, which includes 1.5 hours of axe throwing, the munchies and beverages.  So come on out and have some fun and fellowship!
