Mystery Editor ~ 3/22/23
President BRUCE JACOBS called the meeting to order at 12 noon from the Tucson Convention Center with 94 Rotarians attending the weekly meeting. The opening of the meeting featured the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag lead by JEN HOFFMAN, past Rotary President and the rendition of “Star Spangled Banner”.  A heartwarming Inspiration was given by MITCH PISIK.

The Buffet lunch featured a delicious brisket and salad. As always TCC banquet staff were attentive to the hungry Rotarians.

President BRUCE brought up Kari Meger, Administrative Assistant for six years in the Rotary office, to say a few words to the Club.  We certainly are going to miss Kari and we thank her for all her hard work and service to the members.  President BRUCE also introduced Meisha Burrows who will have the tough job of filling Kari’s shoes.  Welcome Meisha!

President BRUCE introduced the purpose of the meeting and suspended the traditional agenda of the meeting except for the introduction of the guests and the raffle by KHRIS DODGE. The magical card was not pulled so no big payoff this time.

The results from the recent survey sent out to the membership, following a successful Club Assembly held in February for the first time in many years, was revealed by President BRUCE.  Over 60% of the surveys were returned with honest answers and some well-thought comments. The results of the complete survey will be emailed out to the membership very soon.

While many results were revealed, the discussion focused on a few important topics. Membership, meeting frequency and the raising of dues. A separate survey is being developed on the future of our annual big fund-raiser, the Car Show. A vote was taken to change the meeting days from four to three times a month to help offset the increasing costs of running the weekly meetings. The survey revealed the majority of the members would like to go to three meetings a month rather than raise the cost of membership.  A vote was also taken by the members at the lunch as well and a majority in attendance voted also to go to three days a month.  A final decision will be made soon on this issue.

Meeting was adjourned at 1: 20 pm with a toast thanking everyone for sharing their thoughts to help improve the club.

Welcome to the Rotary Club of Tucson!
Welcome Meisha Burrows - Administrative Assistant
WELCOME MEISHA BURROWS

We want to give a warm welcome to the Club’s new Administrative Assistant, Meisha Burrows.  Some of you have already met Meisha at our last meeting but also she attended prior meetings assisting the Switcher Studio Team.

A little information on Meisha, she grew up in Tucson.  For several years she was in the Tucson Girls Chorus and was excited to spend her Junior year of High School in Costa Rica.  Meisha has worked mainly in administrative and accounting for different businesses.  Interesting, she started helping her parents with their taxes for their businesses when she was about eight years old, gathering and organizing all the tax receipts.  Her family has instilled in her a strong entrepreneurial spirit, which she is very appreciative of.

Meisha loves nature and natural healing.  She has studied energy healing, breathwork, and yoga, which have enriched her life in so many ways.

Meisha is beyond grateful and excited to have the opportunity to work and assist the members of the Rotary Club of Tucson and thanks you all for having her be a part of this wonderful organization.  She is looking forward to meeting each and every one of you.  Stop by registration and say "hello" to Meisha!
Arizona Trail Passage #8, Rincon Valley ~ 4/1/23
Hello fellow hiking enthusiasts.

Saturday, April 1 is looking like a beautiful day for a saunter through the desert!  Forecast is for mostly sunny skies with projected temperatures in the lower 50's at start time with projected high temperatures in the upper 70's in the afternoon.  As previously mentioned, and as this is a point-to-point hike, RSVP is appreciated.  At this point there are no other confirmed hikers so I will send a final update later in the week to confirm whether I will be making the LeBuzz start of just heading for the Gabe Zimmerman trailhead.

Arizona Trail Passage #8, Rincon Valley – LeBuzz on Catalina Highway meet time 7AM for 7:15AM departure with 8AM hike time
This is a point-to-point hike that will begin at the Gabe Zimmerman trailhead, as the southern access point.  We will be hiking primarily in desert scrub and saguaros, passing through Colossal Cave Mountain Park and ending at the northern trailhead on South Pistol Hill Rd.  Due to the distance, this hike is categorized as intermediate covering 12.5 miles and offering 1,300 vertical feet, in gradual gains.  This is a great hike for increasing stamina and endurance.  As this is a point-to-point hike, we will be coordinating vehicles at each end so RSVP is requested.

Projected hiking time will be from 7-8 hours allowing time for breaks and meals on the trail.  Please be sure to bring plenty of water, food & sunscreen for a full day in the desert.  3-4 liters of water are highly recommended.

Hope to have some of you join and see you on the trails!
Home Hospitality Hosts Needed

Our Home Hospitality events are scheduled for the week of April 16th through the 22nd and we are looking for members to host during the week.  These social events will replace our Wednesday, April 19th lunch meeting.   If you are interested in hosting a small or large group at your home, place of business or even at a restaurant, please let Dorinna know the date, time, location and the amount of guests you will host.

This is a great opportunity to meet your fellow Rotarians during this Home Hospitality Week!

Miles of Memories
Miles of Memories

I shared with those in attendance on the 13th that this next year I want us to share “Miles of Memories” together. I referenced the memories we have created together over the years and the impact we have had in so many others lives as well as our own.

The children and the parents receiving the grass ball field in San Carlos transformed from a dirt lot. The recipients and their families that obtained their mobility by receiving a wheelchair in Nogales. The memories of our member that participated along with the memories of working together on various local workday projects. Our hiking, golf, home hospitality fellowships and the list goes on.

I ask for you to help me on “our journey” over this next year by sponsoring me in the “Miles of Memories.” My goal is to walk a minimum of 35 miles a week, 1,825 for the year and honestly want to surpass 2000+. I would like for you to consider donating by the mile and we will share the outcome at the first meeting of each month on my progress.

Donations can go to the Foundation toward a Paul Harris, the President’s Discretionary Fund, or others of your choosing. I want us to have fun on our journey over this next year and to INSPIRE each other and our benefactors through the world of Rotary.

Thank you for your support in making our 102nd year one where we create memories together.
