Cliff Bowman, President of the Rotary Club of Tucson Foundation, will give an update on the Club's Foundation.
Biography:
Cliff Bowman is the President of the Rotary Club of Tucson Foundation. Our 97th club president and our 2020 Tucson Classics Car Show Chair, Cliff earned his BS in Mathematics from the University of Arizona where he was commissioned in the US Air Force through the Reserve Officers Training Corp. He earned his MS from the University of LaVerne and additional degrees through Air Force colleges.
Cliff received his initial pilot training at Williams AFB where he was assigned the A-10, his plane of choice, and during his career Cliff flew four tours of duty in the Middle East. Serving over 20 years in the Air Force, his last assignment was at Davis-Monthan AFB as the Commander of the 357th Fighter Squadron. Cliff has over 3,000 total flying hours in three aircraft with over 500 combat hours in over 100 missions. Dr. Dahmer presented several slides about his background, how integrative medicine is about healing the entire body not creating profits. Dr. Dahmer wants all of us to be rebels. These rebels are those who find creative and innovative ways to improve our health by making small and impactful changes to our lives. We need a revolution and need to find ways to change the system; to create health care NOT sick care; to think outside the box. Dr. Dahmer continued to speak to being a patient advocate for all his clinic patients. He presented several statistics and useful information on the changes we can make and become healthier. Our Make Way for Books addition today is called “I Want To Be A Doctor” for Dr. Stephen Dahmer to sign as we continue to support literacy.

Inviting prospective members to Rotary events is a great way to showcase the club's values and service. The Club covering the cost of lunch for first-time attendees is a generous touch that can make newcomers feel welcome and appreciated. It's all about building connections and strengthening our impact in the community. We encourage you to bring your prospective members to a club meeting. They won’t be disappointed.

No new Wild Polio paralysis cases reported this week. We are now 7 weeks since the most recent report of a child being paralyzed by the Wild Polio Virus in Pakistan.
World Immunization Week is fast approaching on 24-30 April. This is a critical time to raise awareness about the importance of immunization and the safety and effectiveness of vaccines. Why do we believe so strongly in this? Rotary made a promise to the children of the world with the launch of the PolioPlus program in 1985 that we would eradicate polio from the world. Thanks to vaccines and the incredible support of Rotary members like you, polio cases have been reduced by 99.9%. But we aren’t done yet. As we continue our work to eradicate polio worldwide, we need to remain vigilant so that we don’t lose the progress we’ve made. No child should suffer from diseases like polio that a vaccine can prevent. Polio eradication is Rotary’s top humanitarian project, and we need your help to educate your communities about the benefits of vaccination and tell the story of Rotary’s efforts.UNICEF thanks the Board of Trustees of the Rotary Foundation for the US$ 17 million of new grants received. These grants will support our work in Afghanistan, Pakistan and the global outbreak response.
As of 2/28/25, total contributions to Rotary's END POLIO NOW Fund total $25,163,000 - including cash contributions, DDF Pledges, and the $.50 to the dollar World Fund Match on DDF contributions.
We have some work to do to reach our $50 Mil 2024-25 Goal to earn the full $100 Mil Gates Foundation Match!
2025 Wild Polio Case Total 7 - Afghanistan 1 - Pakistan 6

Our next scheduled hike will find us at the mid-way point to the top of Mount Lemmon. The Bug Springs Trail offers sweeping views beginning in rugged desert terrain and ascending into the pine forests to the Bear Canyon Picnic area. This hike also presents two options in distance and can be completed as a point to point of 4.4 miles or an out and back covering 8.8 miles. The total vertical elevation gain is 1,961 feet reaching a maximum elevation of near 6,300 feet.
This hike is considered to be difficult and much of the trail is not shaded. As the days are getting longer and temperatures warming up a bit, we will meet at our favorite spot for all hikes in the Santa Catalinas, LeBuzz, located in the mall at Tanque Verde and Catalina Highway. We can certainly carpool up and leave vehicles at each end to accommodate both hike distances. Meeting time at LeBuzz will be 6:45AM for departure at 7AM and hike start at 7:45-8AM. Anticipated hike time will vary depending on distance chosen but plan for 2.5-5 hours and with April temperatures warming up a bit, it is important to bring plenty of water, snacks and sun protection.

Calling all Rotarians – it’s time to roll up those sleeves and make a difference! We need 40 energetic, fun-loving volunteers to help pack food for those in need. Get ready for some hard work, a ton of laughs, and the satisfaction of giving back to the community. Great service in January where we packed over 250,000 lbs. of food for our "neighbors". Rotary Rocks!
At the Rotary Club of Tucson, we believe in giving back to our community and supporting causes that make a real difference. And now, it’s easier than ever to contribute to our efforts!
