The Port of Tucson has been in service since 2004 and has continued to prove to be a tremendous asset to both the Tucson-metro area and the Southwest region as a whole. Providing both domestic and international intermodal container transportation, the Port of Tucson facilitates in the transport and exchange of goods within the United States and Mexico; even contributing to the exportation of American products to Asian countries along the Pacific Rim. Furthermore, the Port greatly contributes to our local economy by offering long-term, onsite warehousing for manufacturing and distribution, along with various recreational local and non-local businesses wanting to expand to our great area.
Biography - Mark Levin
Mike Levin is an Executive Vice President with the Levin Family Limited Partnership. Along with his father Alan and brother Matt, they own and operate the Port of Tucson, Century Park Properties, Tucson Frozen Storage, Tucson Port Authority, and Cushing Business Center.
Mike’s current role is as Executive Vice President of Commercial Real Estate for Century Park Properties, Cushing Business Center, and the Port of Tucson. This role oversees the management of over 2 million square feet of warehousing, distribution, manufacturing, and rail served properties. In addition to lease and tenant management, he works closely with local economic development groups to help in highlighting Tucson as a hub for global trade and logistics with both Mexico and Asia. Through the Port of Tucson and its ability to ship and receive containers internationally from pacific rim countries, it provides a key link to Arizona and Mexico in the world economy.
Our hump day meeting was opened by PRESIDENT ELLIE. She introduced JON WANG who had a Moment of Silence for Lew Riggs’ wife, Chris and Stub Ashcraft’s wife. Stub was a club icon for many years in the 90’s.
PAT ZUMBUSCH gave the Inspiration and GARY HIRSCH played the “Star Spangled Banner” with CHAR SIGALA leading us in the Pledge and Song.
CLIFF BOWMAN, our President Elect and crack lead A-10 pilot instructor, introduced our guests and visiting Rotarians. Happy Birthdays went to former President JON WANG, current President, ELLIE PATTERSON, DOT (had a chat) KRET, PAULINE HECHLER – moving to Phoenix to be closer to her Grandchildren – we will miss you PAULINE. And, ELLEN WHEELER, Irish born in Tucson. Her Irish quote, “May you be in heaven a half an hour "after" the devil knows your dead!”
FONDA INSLEY recognized MARIA PARHAM for her book “100 Years of Weather”.
SAA FONDA INSLEY also fined LIZ BAKER for her 4th Grade science teaching.

FONDA INSLEY announced the Trident II Monthly Social Mixer on 3/30/17, no sign ups required.
DAVE GALLAHER talked about the Triangle Y Camp Project on 4/14 & 4/15/17 – stay overnight – paint – clean up – have fun!
Our program was introduced by JEFF RONSTADT (his son Larry beat Leukemia a few years ago). ROB LAMASTER is the Southern Arizona Director for Make-A-Wish Arizona. Since 2013, ROB has helped children and their families get through the most awful time in their lives. This wonderful organization was launched in 1980 and grants over 365 wishes per year to sick and dying children. The numbers are incredible for this foundation.
285,000 wishes in 37 years.
6,000 wishes for Arizona children.
75% of the children survive their illness.
25% of the children are terminal.
85% of the children and families experience reduced stress.
70% of the wishes involve travel.
In closing, the Foundation sells smiles and makes the disease experience a better one through love, understanding and support. God knows, everyone needs this foundation if the worst happens to your family. Thank you ROB and Make-A-Wish.
The meeting was brought to a close by PRESIDENT ELLIE who “wished” for all the good people in the world.
Our next Social Mixer/Replacement Meeting held on March 29th will be at the Rincon Farmer’s Market located at 2513 E. 6th Street from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. This mixer will replace our regular scheduled Wednesday lunch meeting that day. The menu is all you can eat Spaghetti and Meatballs. $1 beers and $5 wines will be available. Since this is a replacement meeting, there is no fee for members and the guest fee is $20. Registration is up on Clubrunner under "Upcoming Events" on the Home Page. We will also be having a raffle... So come join us for some fun and fellowship!
A report from Car Show Chairman Jim Murphy.In addition to the Corvette, Jim and his team have secured prizes including a $3000 shopping spree at Sam Levitz, $2000 in airline tickets from Wellspring Financial, $1500 for kitchen appliances from Tucson Appliance, and $500 gift certificate from Jack Furrier Tire and Auto. Dave White and his crew have sold over 10% more than last year’s ticket sales at the Rodeo and Festival of Books. Car Show participants are a little down from last year, so Jim is asking for volunteers to assist David Pashkow in handing out flyers at several car shows in the area over the next couple of months.
The Club is in the process of moving our checking and savings accounts from the Bank of Tucson to Commerce Bank of Arizona.
Our Finance Report shows net income over budget by $5645.17.
The board approved membership applications for Mark Silverman, Prodip Dutta, Janet Barbrick, and a family membership for Kandy Hirsch.
The membership committee is working on a set of initiatives to increase membership with particular emphasis on diversity and younger members. Discussion also centered on retention and forming a Retention Membership Chair. The majority of members leave the club due to relocating or health complications; however, the Retention Membership Chair will develop strategies for retaining members who are considering leaving for other reasons.
The 29 March meeting will be an evening replacement meeting at Rincon Market.
We are in need of hosts for Home Hospitality the week 17-23 April.

As part of the discussion, a question was asked concerning the status of our club donations to Rotary International. Here is how our club is doing as compared to goals established by Rotary International which are also criteria for the Presidential Citation. As you can see, we are crushing one of the goals but need to possibly reconsider our giving strategies for the two other goals.
