Edmund Marquez is the President and majority-owner of the Tucson Sugar Skulls, the professional indoor football team, a franchise of the IFL.He is also the owner of the Edmund Marquez Allstate Insurance Agencies in Tucson, Arizona, and is known for leading one of the largest Hispanic-owned Allstate agency groups in the United States. Born and raised in Tucson, AZ, Edmund attended Sabino High School and Pima Community College before earning a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Arizona. He also holds a business certificate from Stanford University.
Currently, Edmund serves as the Chairman of The Boys and Girls Clubs of Tucson and the United Way’s Tocqueville Society and is Vice-Chairman of the Rio Nuevo board. His commitment to community leadership is evident through his role on the Boards of Directors of the Southern Arizona Leadership Council. Edmund has previously served as the Chairman of the Board of United Way, The Pima Community College Foundation, the Tucson Metro Chamber, the Arizona Sands Club, and the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
In recognition of his outstanding contributions, Edmund has received several accolades, including being named the “Businessman of the Year” by the Tucson Hispanic Chamber, awarded the “Tucson Strong Award” from the Snoop Dog Arizona Bowl, and awarded the Distinguished Citizen by Scouting America. He was also honored with the “Breath of Life Award” by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the “Father of the Year” award by the Father’s Day Council. Furthermore, he received the “Centennial Service Award” from the United Way, and the “Platinum Cactus Award” from the Tucson Metro Chamber. Edmund’s achievements have led to his induction into the Sabino High School Hall of Fame, the Pi Kappa Alpha Hall of Honor, and the Southern Arizona YMCA Hall of Fame.
Outside of his professional pursuits, Edmund has raised millions of dollars for local non-profits with his high energy and enthusiasm as an emcee to numerous community events throughout the Tucson community. Edmund is also a valued member of the Tucson Airport Authority and the National Leadership Council of the University of Arizona Foundation.
The Tucson Convention Center buzzed with excitement as Rotarians gathered for a truly special April 8th meeting — a conversation with Senator Mark Kelly! President DOT KRET rang the bell, DAN KALM led the Pledge, and KHRIS DODGE delivered the weekly Inspirational Moment sharing how music brings us all together.
After a fellowship buffet lunch, DAN KALM welcomed all guests and virtual viewers. Cookie Monster duties went to CARY BENJAMIN of Done Rite Services and LORI SCHROEDER— no Rotarian left unfueled.
Then came the main event: President DOT somehow wordsmithed a lovely poem to introduce former astronaut and U.S. Senator Mark Kelly, who shared stories and insights that captivated the room. MICHAEL GUYMON hosted a fireside chat with Senator Kelly who covered a broad range of topics; including what he is most proud of in his career (serving), he covered his first car, his first job, his time in space, the water situation in AZ and legislation he has worked on. The Senator also signed copies of his children's book "Mousetronaut," donated to Make Way for Books — continuing our club's commitment to children's literacy in Tucson.
Meeting sponsors ALAN SCHROPE of Camp Bow Wow and DAVID LEX of Pak Mail presented gift baskets for a lively auction with MATT BLAIR at the gavel. Sergeant at Arms DAN KALM ran the raffle — congratulations to MIKE SHULTE who won some money, though the big pot will carry over to next week.
DOT KRET shared announcements: Hiking Fellowship 4/11 with BRUCE RICHARDSON, the Time Capsule Event at Hotel Congress on 4/15, Adopt a Road 4/18 with LEE OLITZKY, and save the date for The Event at Tucson Country Club on 4/22. DOT presented a Giving Moment to DON JORGENSEN for Shelterbox and Don thanked RCOT for our contribution, and LUIS HERNANDEZ delivered the Membership Minute.

The Hiking Fellowship’s road trip to Bisbee was a complete success! Ten of us enjoyed a fantastic day of camaraderie—getting our steps in while discovering a great new place to eat at the Legion Bar & Grill. Beyond the welcoming atmosphere, food, and hospitality, the ongoing historic restoration project and the stories this 1898 structure holds make it well worth a visit on your next trip to Bisbee.
Martha and I were joined by fellow Rotarians Khris Dodge, Daniel Allen, Peter Behan & Scarlett, Dan & Karen Kalm, along with our family members Amy Nelson and Jim Bachman. The photo we shared was taken along the Bisbee 1,000 route, which everyone enjoyed at their own pace. The fresh air, rolling hills, relaxed vibe, and great friendships made for a truly memorable day.
Be sure to mark your calendars for our next trek—a refreshing dip in Hutch’s pool on May 16, 2026 (time TBA).
The Rotary Vocational Fund of Arizona (TRVFA) is a Qualifying Charitable Organization (QCO code 20698) allowing Arizona taxpayers to claim a dollar-for-dollar state tax credit. Donations reduce tax liability by up to $495 (single/head of household) or $987 (married filing jointly) for the 2025 tax year.

Rotarians—please join your fellow members as we continue our ongoing mission to clean up Oracle Road. There’s always roadside trash to tackle, and thanks to our efforts over the past two years, we can truly see the difference we’re making—the area is noticeably cleaner.
We’ll meet at Pinz Bowling, 501 W. River Road, at 8:00 AM and wrap up by mid-morning. Expect fresh air, a little light exercise, and the occasional “interesting” find along the way.
All supplies are provided, including gloves, safety vests, grabbers, and trash bags. We’ll also have snacks and water on hand.
Please wear closed-toe shoes, along with a hat and sunscreen.
Our special evening to recognize ourselves and celebrate our club will take place at the Tucson Country Club on April 22nd.
Join us for a memorable night of fun, great food, and a chance to pat ourselves on the back as we give a well-deserved shout-out to our fellow Rotarians who have gone above and beyond to help propel our efforts in serving the community.
