General Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of Rotary International, John Hewko lives out Rotary’s mission as part of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative. He’s immunized children against polio in India, represented Rotary at the World Economic Forum, and bicycled 104 miles in El Tour de Tucson to help raise more than $60 million for polio eradication. He's riding in El Tour for the 11th time this year.
He's speaking at the Rotary Club of Tucson's luncheon meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 15th, 12:00 noon at the Tucson Convention Center.

When Rotary became a part of the Global Polio Eradication initiative, there were 350,000 cases of wild polio every year across 125 countries. Today to date for 2023, there have been 6 cases in Afghanistan and 4 cases in Pakistan. We must reach every child to reach our goal of a polio-free world.

The Rotary Club of Tucson has an Indoor Ride to End Polio event and fellow Rotarians riding in El Tour/Ride to End Polio as our fundraiser to support the goal of a polio-free world. On October 24th, World Polio Day, each year we, as Rotarians, renew our commitment to Rotary's top humanitarian goal. Our Indoor team rode on November 7th and are pictured here. On November 18th our fellow Rotarians will ride in the El Tour de Tucson. Please join this effort and support one or more of our riders to achieve the polio-free world humanitarian goal.
Our Indoor Riders are Jo DeChatelet, Charlotte Harris, Gary Hirsch, Dot Kret, Ann Lancero, Bobby Larson, Ernie Montagne, Steve Pickering, Darrell Stewart, Hugh Thompson, and Bruce Tunze.
Our El Tour Road Warriors are Matt Blair, Jim Garrett, Aimee Graves, Lee Olitzky, Alan Rogers, and Jonathan Walkup.
Make your check out to The Rotary Foundation and in the memo put the name(s) of the riders you are supporting and give your check to either Dorinna or Erica.

The club will be ringing the bells for the Salvation Army on Saturday, December 2, 2023. We have several locations assigned to us with two hour shifts in various parts of Tucson. Each meeting is a stand-alone session, no prior attendance is necessary. There is no charge and non-rotarians and all guests are also invited and welcome. We simply share our thoughts about the book being discussed that session. It's a time for fellowship and getting to know members better.
We are meeting in the large meeting room at the Kirk Bear Canyon Library on December 4th at noon, with special guest participant, Bob Logan.

Handbags of Hope Service Project. Inspire, uplift, and encourage women in treatment as they transition into a new phase in their lives! Rotarians are invited to donate toiletry items which will be tucked inside new or gently used women’s handbags. Each woman will be gifted a handbag brimming with small soaps, lotion, shampoo, toothbrushes, sunscreen, lip balm, and hygiene products during this winter holiday season. Hotel-sized or small items will best fit into the handbags. The Haven helps women heal from substance use disorders, stay connected with their families, and give them hope for their futures. Many of their clients come to The Haven with very limited belongings. By gifting them a handbag with toiletries and hygiene products, women have the basic necessities to start their new lives.
