PRESIDENT BOBBY LARSON rang the bell to open another sunny Tucson gathering, welcoming Rotarians, guests, and our virtual crew tuning in.
ERICA CANTUA led the Pledge and a spirited "You're a Grand Old Flag," with KHRIS DODGE keeping the piano keys humming.
The room paused for a Moment of Silence honoring longtime member GERRY HALLOWELL, who passed away August 1st at 87 — a Rotarian since December 2000 whose memory lives on with every member he touched, he will be missed.
We also honored the Memory of DJ JOHN who kept our Car Shows lively with his disc turning.
ALAN ROGERS lifted spirits with this week's Inspirational Moment, and SAA DRE WILLIAMS welcomed our guests.
PRESIDENT BOBBY shared Tracy's globe-trotting Cookie Monster Board adventures, then crowned this week's COOKIE MONSTER, Karen Kalm, sponsored by Altitude Home Loans.
The program spotlight went to NANCY GUNGOR, who introduced JERRY BUSTAMANTE, Hudbay's Senior Manager of Public Affairs, for an eye-opening talk on "Copper World and Copper Demand." Did you know… HUDBAY has been around for 100 years? This mine will be one of two mines in the US supplying finished copper to businesses in the US, they have been innovative in water consumption for the mine, saving eight years of water already prior to the opening of the mine and they will have over 400 new jobs not to mention the major impact the mine will have on our local economy. JERRY also signed the book titled "All About Mines: Cool Mining Facts for Kids," headed straight for the Make Way for Books library.
JIM LUBINSKI celebrated his birthday which was on July 2. Happy Birthday JIM!
CHARLOTTE HARRIS presented a Paul Harris recognition to CURT CANNON, congratulations CURT!
PRESIDENT BOBBY delivered a Giving Moment check to EL NDOYE of The Forgotten Children.
SAA DRE drew the winning raffle ticket, congratulations CHUCK SAWYER. A huge pot of money ($2500) will carry over to our next meeting as the King of Clubs was not drawn once again.
Announcements kept the energy high: Sponsor a Lunch Meeting, Family Fun with CHUCK SAWYER and his oldest granddaughter, MITCH PISIK's Membership Minute, DIANA MADARAS shared her awesome creation, the “Lana Turner” car video featuring many of our very own, ELENA HA's push for 450 Car Show goodie bags and items to stuff them, and ALAN's ticket update — 4,880 sold toward our 30,000 goal!
MEGAN GEORGE closed with an Amphi Foundation (ECHO) funds update.
Don't forget your UA and Pima CC Scholarship donation and see you at Events Around Town. Remember no lunch meeting on 8/12 — ALAN led the toast to another great week!
Our October 24th Car Show is fast approaching, and we're stepping up our electronic marketing efforts to build excitement, increase attendance, and boost ticket sales.
Over the coming weeks, you'll receive emails from the Car Show Committee fromalanrogers.rotary@214663694.mailchimpapp.com with updates about the event, promotional materials, and information to help you sell tickets. We encourage you to forward these emails to friends, family, neighbors, and anyone else who might enjoy the show and support our cause.

Thank you for your continued support of the Car Show and the charitable missions of the Rotary Club of Tucson. Your help makes a real difference, and we appreciate everything you do to help make this event a success.
You have the opportunity to join one of our upcoming service projects in a partnership with Youth On Their Own (YOTO), one of this year’s Tucson Classics Car Show’s beneficiaries. On 9/11 we will join others in the September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance. Please see the flyer for details and an email that was sent last week.
YOTO has made it easy for us to volunteer by providing a special sign-up online process as noted in the flyer or Click Here to sign up. If you are willing to work either indoors or outdoors, you need not put anything in the My Comments section. If you prefer to work inside only, please note that in the My Comments section.
Diana Madaras wrote a country song about her husband Phil’s ’67 Corvette. Rick Rose then produced the music video. You won’t believe the great Tucson scenes Rick captured and see some of our fellow Rotarians who star in the video. The song and video will be used to promote our Car Show in some very creative ways. Click on the link below to hear the song and subscribe to the channel if you want to hear many more Madaras songs to come.
Ticket Packets as well as Classic Club tickets are now available for pickup at Rotary meetings along with posters, business cards, and ticket-selling partner agreements.
