TopGolf ~ Replacement/Social Mixer ~ 8/28/2019
August 28th is our Replacement/Social Mixer for our Wednesday lunch meeting.  The event will be held at TopGolf, 4050 W. Costco Place from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  Guest fee is $30 and no golf clubs are needed.  Hope you all can come out and join us for a really fun time!  Our next Rotary lunch meeting is on September 4th.  Mike Candrea, Head Coach of U of A Softball will be presenting.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!  No more of this news!  Past President CHUCK SAWYER opened the meeting with an announcement that President LOGAN had a heart attack Monday.  He is OK after a stent was inserted in one blocked artery - the other three were good.  I don’t think you can blame this on your presidency, PRESIDENT BOB!!!  We are just glad you are OK!

PRODIP DUTTA led us in the pledge and the song “You’re a Grand Ole’ Flag” with GARY HIRSCH on the piano.  Technology was not our friend as the inspirational video did not cooperate.  CHUCK SAWYER substituted with an appropriate prayer.  Guests and visiting Rotarians were introduced by ROB LAMASTER.

We viewed a video about our speaker of the day, TIM SWINDLE, aptly catching a fly ball at a baseball game followed by his video intro.  His speech was very informative and a trip down memory lane about the importance that U of A played in the US trips to the moon.

Birthday wishes were given to BRUCE JACOBS, SARA GAAR EHRENS (herself a survivor of a recent heart issue) and MIKE SCHULTE.

STACIA DECKER introduced us to new and young member PHILL ACEDO who has taken over retired TONY PEDROZA’s job at Tucson Recycling.  PHILL did NOT attend Salpointe but did attend the U of A!  He shares twin girl/boy combos with all four of his brothers!!  You have big shoes to fill, PHILL, but with TONY’S mentoring we know you can do it!

BOBBY LARSON led our usual raffle, plus our first 50/50 which was won by DALE BERG!  HUGH THOMPSON gave us a wonderful history reflection of our club’s past success with Projecto Amanacer, which helped over 6,000 Mexican children with heart defects.  BRUCE JACOBS reminded us of the upcoming social at TopGolf 8-28, BILL MESCH presented a blue badge to TAUREEN ORTIZ whose 26 years lowers our average age!  BRUCE ELLWEIN encouraged us to sign up for car show volunteer positions and DANIELLE BAILLIERE announced “opportunities” to support the car show by donating an item for the Friday night auction.

The meeting was then promptly adjourned by a toast from Past President SAWYER.
Member Support Committee
We would appreciate your help in identifying Club members who are in some sort of struggle mode.  This committee would like to check in with that member to see if there is any way we could be of help.  Many don't want help under these types of circumstances but a phone call frequently is reassuring.  Please contact Frank, Hugh or Dorinna (520-623-2281) with any news of a member in trouble.

Thank you,

Co-chairs:  Frank Dahl (907-529-4477) and Hugh Thompson (520-299-4930)
Paul Harris Pins
Have you lost or misplaced your latest Paul Harris pin?  We have some and thought if you needed a new one, at your current level of giving, we would see if we have one that you need.  If you are interested, please contact Charlotte (charharris@aol.com) and she will see if she has an extra on hand that you can have.
Biosphere 2 ~ Free Admission
At our July 31st Rotary meeting, our speaker, John Adams – Deputy Director of Biosphere 2, offered free admission for each Rotary member and one guest until the deadline of January 31, 2020.  To obtain your two free admission tickets, go to the ticket desk and state you are from the Rotary Club of Tucson.  They will have tickets ready for you.
