Mystery Editor ~ 2/22/23
It was a cold-ish and stormy-ish afternoon.  The heat of the moment, at high noon, when BRUCE JACOBS started the meeting - warmed up the room and members.

“IMAGINE” VIDEO played.

Our prized administrator, Dorinna, assured, yet again, our lunch consisted of a scrumptious buffet and in keeping with tradition, members dressed in their rodeo attire to celebrate Tucson's Rodeo week.

GRACIE QUIROZ MARUM lead us in both the pledge and song – “America the Beautiful”.

The highly anticipated Inspiration section of the meeting, once again, lived up to it’s name. BRITTANY BATTLE delivered a highly spirited presentation on the 98-year-old Tucson Rodeo – which was informative, humorous, and chock-full of fun facts and fascinating trivia.

KHRIS DODGE introduced and welcomed our guests.

BRUCE gave an informative introduction of Lt. Mike Miller.

Lt. Mike Miller gave an impassioned introduction of Rear Admiral Brad Rosen.  Rear Admiral Rosen gave an inspired, impassioned, informative presentation on our Navy ( our “Away Team”) overall, and his area of influence specifically.  This included the importance of our armed forces, detail of our assets and personnel, and challenges in recruitment.  This was followed by a robust Q & A session.

We donated the signed book “US Navy Alphabet Book” to Make Way for Books library.

The birthdays of DON CLARK and KEN LIGHT were celebrated.  Happy Birthday to you two gentlemen!

SANDRA JOHNSON introduced STEVE OCHOA as a new member.  Welcome to the Club STEVE and congratulations!

JEN HOFFMAN awarded JIM DAVENPORT the Paul Harris award.  Congratulations JIM!!

Phoneline Trail ~ March 4th & 11th
Good morning fellow "Death March" enthusiasts,

As shared at Wednesday's meeting, we have the first 10-mile hike on the calendar, not once...but twice in the next few weeks.  As there are a couple of Rotary Club of Tucson club related activities that are also on the initial hike date of March 4th the hike will be offered again the following weekend, March 11th.

Saturday March 4th & 11th - 8AM meet time at the east trail entrance, Sabino Canyon main lot
Phoneline Trail looping back on Sabino Canyon Road
Please note the below link provides insight on the different trails in the Canyon.  Total hike is just over 10 miles so a nice kick starter for building endurance for longer mileage trips.  Hike time is anticipated at 5-5.5 hours with breaks.  The projected forecast for the first hike is starting temperature at 40 degrees, warming to 70 in the afternoon and under sunny skies

Hope to see you on the trails!

Miles of Memories
Miles of Memories

I shared with those in attendance on the 13th that this next year I want us to share “Miles of Memories” together. I referenced the memories we have created together over the years and the impact we have had in so many others lives as well as our own.

The children and the parents receiving the grass ball field in San Carlos transformed from a dirt lot. The recipients and their families that obtained their mobility by receiving a wheelchair in Nogales. The memories of our member that participated along with the memories of working together on various local workday projects. Our hiking, golf, home hospitality fellowships and the list goes on.

I ask for you to help me on “our journey” over this next year by sponsoring me in the “Miles of Memories.” My goal is to walk a minimum of 35 miles a week, 1,825 for the year and honestly want to surpass 2000+. I would like for you to consider donating by the mile and we will share the outcome at the first meeting of each month on my progress.

Donations can go to the Foundation toward a Paul Harris, the President’s Discretionary Fund, or others of your choosing. I want us to have fun on our journey over this next year and to INSPIRE each other and our benefactors through the world of Rotary.

Thank you for your support in making our 102nd year one where we create memories together.
