Arizona's Economy Buffeted by Shifting Winds
As cross currents buffet the Arizona economy, it looks different depending on the lens used to view it. The labor market remains very tight, generating strong job gains, low unemployment rates, rapid wage increases, and a mountain of open jobs. At the same time, retail sales has begun to slow, inflation far exceeds income growth, housing affordability has plunged, and interest rates are rising.

Where are the global, national, state, and local economies headed next? Will increasingly restrictive monetary policy succeed in bringing inflation down without causing a recession? Will state and local house prices moderate? Will rising unemployment put downward pressure on wages? Will manufacturing jobs continue to grow rapidly? Be sure to join us!

Mystery Editor ~ 1/4/23
There was a brisk breeze outside the Convention Center that greeted the glamorous membership of our prestigious Club. Inside, all were warmed by the basking in friendship, and the assertiveness of BRUCE JACOBS bring to a start our inaugural meeting of 2023 AD. The clock struck high noon.

The “IMAGINE” VIDEO was played.

Dorinna and Kari, yet again, succeeded in assuring that a scrumptious buffet was offered. Their contribution to the myriad of successes of our club cannot be overstated.

The Pledge and the "Star Spangled Banner" were sung with gusto by CHRIS KIM, who also shared with us a Korean Blessing. KHRIS DODGE accompanied the song on piano with a jazzy/hip hop/ country music fusion interpretation.

The room waited in anticipation for one of their most enjoyable aspects of each of the weekly meetings – THE INSPIRATIONAL MESSAGE. KYM ADAIR continued this tradition, with a beautiful and gracious “from the heart” presentation about The Arizona Bowl – including both her appreciation of our club’s support, and the overall success of this complicated and important event.

KHRIS welcomed everyone and introduced our guests.

KHRIS then also introduced our special singer - Sheryl Ann McKinley.  Sheryl delivered a wonderful show of about a half dozen classic standards.  She was accompanied by KHRIS on the piano – where he served up a creative dish of melodies, with a pinch of enigma, well doused in soulful harmonic insights.

The book, I Spy Music Everywhere, was signed and will be donated to Make Way For Books - as we continue to support children's literacy in Tucson.

We all celebrated TOM LICKLITER, JASON FLAX, and DAVID LOVITT birthdays.  Happy Birthday to you fine gentlemen!

MATTHEW GASPARI was introduced by BOB LOGAN, and then presented with his Blue Badge by JIM WOOD.  Congratulations MATTHEW!

KHRIS administered the raffle. $51 was won by KANDIE VACTOR. KHRIS decided not to allow anyone to win big!

Miles of Memories
Miles of Memories

I shared with those in attendance on the 13th that this next year I want us to share “Miles of Memories” together. I referenced the memories we have created together over the years and the impact we have had in so many others lives as well as our own.

The children and the parents receiving the grass ball field in San Carlos transformed from a dirt lot. The recipients and their families that obtained their mobility by receiving a wheelchair in Nogales. The memories of our member that participated along with the memories of working together on various local workday projects. Our hiking, golf, home hospitality fellowships and the list goes on.

I ask for you to help me on “our journey” over this next year by sponsoring me in the “Miles of Memories.” My goal is to walk a minimum of 35 miles a week, 1,825 for the year and honestly want to surpass 2000+. I would like for you to consider donating by the mile and we will share the outcome at the first meeting of each month on my progress.

Donations can go to the Foundation toward a Paul Harris, the President’s Discretionary Fund, or others of your choosing. I want us to have fun on our journey over this next year and to INSPIRE each other and our benefactors through the world of Rotary.

Thank you for your support in making our 102nd year one where we create memories together.
