A service oriented individual who has consistently worked since he was 14 years old. Mike believes everyone should do something with their lives and to put “Service Beyond Self” was his decision in 1981 when he started working in the funeral industry. Today Mike and his wife Dee Dee own and operate the Angel Valley Funeral Home and Old Pueblo Crematory in Tucson, Arizona. They are one of the few remaining family owned and operated facilities in the city. Mike loves what he does and is willing to share with you the “Business”.  The funeral and cremation industry as a whole has changed drastically in the past 35 years. This will be a great opportunity for the membership to ask questions in a setting to get the right answer. This is a subject that few will even talk about and discuss as a group.  He has assisted with thousands of funeral and memorial services in his career and has actually embalmed over 3500 deceased individuals and has helped many of the members in our club. Think about questions you would like to ask and he will have an answer.

 

 

I had to chuckle with the way CHRIS EDWARDS started his introduction of guests and visitors. I think he put it best – “I may be a little too loud, like my commercials!” Thanks CHRIS for humor and introductions.

SID HIRSH recently received a nice honor. He and his business made the front page of the Daily Star. After many years of owning and managing a successful store in Tucson, SID has decided to close doors. SID was not only surprised that he received attention from the Daily Star, but double surprised to see the article on the front page. Great Job SID and enjoy your time away from the business!

 

We were also introduced to this year’s 4-Way Test Award winner, Bill Assenmacher of CAID Industries. Many of you probably already know Bill as he is a longtime participant in MANY philanthropic organizations within Tucson. He has and is dedicated to making Tucson a better place to live and intends to dedicate his time to helping improve the Tucson business environment so more of our children and grandchildren may find the right employment opportunity here at home. Thanks Bill for all you do here in Tucson!

We had both a very interesting and informative program. John Lee, the President of Rincon Rotary Club, provided an overview of his club’s approach to charity, what his club calls RotaryLocal.org. On the heels of considering the many ways for you to be engaged in Rotary; let’s look at the other side of the coin – what are some of the things you can expect from your membership? There’s more than seven, and again, not all will apply to each Rotarian.

 

Likely the first benefit most think of is either the satisfaction of improving the world you live in, or the fulfilling of the obligation you feel to give back in return for what you have received.  Very similar; but not quite identical.  And both are considerable motivators.
