FC Tucson was founded in 2010 by a local group of dedicated Tucsonans who wanted to elevate the sport and bring professional soccer to the City of Tucson. Since that time, FC Tucson has been responsible for helping to put Tucson on the national stage by hosting the annual MLS pre-season training events as well as developing America’s top Players who have gone on to become MLS and US Men’s National Team Members. This year marks the 10th anniversary of FC Tucson and the Club intends to enter the new decade with a commitment to showcasing top talent and bringing the community together in a whole new fashion. We are calling all Supporters, Fans, and Community Members to join us in this new decade to build a movement and make this Club their own.

Amanda Powers ~ Biography

Incoming FC TUCSON club president Amanda Powers is no stranger to competitive sports, the sports business, or the challenges of transforming promising local enterprises into regional powerhouses. An NCAA All-American swimmer and former start-up Chief Operating Officer (COO) of New Mexico United, Powers was integral to the development of that state’s first—but already iconic—statewide professional sports franchise. Prior to the team’s first season, her economic feasibility/site study for a downtown Albuquerque soccer stadium helped jumpstart efforts to attract local investors to the United “cause.” Investors roundly responded to her findings and the franchise’s subsequent marketing efforts—to the tune of $8M.

The franchise then hired Powers to develop and implement United’s core strategic business objectives, scale up operations, and act as gatekeeper to the company’s vision. Within one year, they were duly rewarded for their efforts. The United “brand” became ubiquitous around the state, and the record-breaking crowds queuing up for first season (2018-2019) games—before the new United stadium was even built—signaled that the United phenom was already here to stay.

Powers arrives in Tucson following a consultancy with several new and existing franchises in the USL Championship, but her record of championing strategic business development efforts spans more than 15 years. Over that time, Powers has worked alongside entrepreneurs from a variety of industries, including education, transportation logistics, banking and finance, biotech, and real estate development. Powers’ overriding interest in helping entrepreneurs plan and execute visionary strategies led her to found Kinship Consulting in 2013.  From 2014 to 2016, Powers cut her teeth in economic development as an Economic Research Analyst providing GIS mapping site-services, written business plans, and economic analysis reports for project developers, private equity firms, Economic Development Organizations (EDOs) and governmental entities within the EB-5 industry. She advised developers and participated in advising members of U.S. Congress in sound economic policies for the EB-5 program.

During her years in Albuquerque, Powers, a California native, has played a crucial role in the development of TEDxABQ ( Albuquerque), has been an active member of the Young Professionals of Albuquerque (YPA) and the Urban Land Institute (ULI), and remains active in a wide array of community initiatives and organizations that support new economic thinking. She is passionate about volunteerism and has mentored dozens of incarcerated teenage girls at the Children Youth and Families Department (CYFD) Camino Nuevo Detention Facility.

Amanda is married to a Los Alamos native and will be making a new home in Tucson, Arizona with her husband Malcolm, their dog, cats, and two goats. Amanda has a degree in International Business from Sonoma State University and a Project Management Certificate from the University of New Mexico.
